View Full Version : More Sansui Creamy Goodness
chasaboo 01-14-2009, 04:00 PM Sansui 3300
This was a receiver thrown in with a couple of amps I got from someone, they just wanted to, and I'm quoting the wife here, "Get those things out of my house!" Hey I obliged. :thmbsp:
What a beautiful looking and creamy sounding amp. Stunning how these old Sansui receivers hold up. Right now I've got a turntable hooked up to him playing some BTO. Just magic.
Why is that Sansui receivers seem to do rock just about the best of all the major brands? :music:
Can't wait for the weekend to get here to give it a proper shakedown.

bobforapples 01-14-2009, 06:35 PM Awesome!
I have a 2000x that I think falls into the same category as your 3300.
Small, pretty, and very efficient!

I think I would have put "pretty" in all caps. Gorgeous unit.

+1 Very elegant design
Enjoy all that creaminess! :music:
kretinus 01-15-2009, 11:03 AM I like that "thrown in".
Pretty much all the X series and the 3300, 4000 etc are sweet little bundles.
I have the owners/service manual so if there's any info you need on it, let me know.
And congrats, I've had a variety of speakers hooked up to mine, from 'sui SP-300s to KLH 32s and all sounded magnificent with it. The 300s in particular.
superdog 01-15-2009, 12:31 PM Nice looking unit.Great amp sections in these.I have the 2000x.Pretty good for something that was "thrown in".
catch 22 01-15-2009, 08:28 PM Yep. I have a soft spot for my ol' 5500. People say this line doesn't have much headroom, but they don't have to be played "loud" to be loved
nosirrah 01-15-2009, 09:07 PM I have a couple of these, nice receiver, classic looks.
They also have knobs that are a step up from the other units from the period, One of mine works great, but suffered from a shipping horror story, the other has a great looking case, but I have not tested it since I got it.

The 3300 is rated at 28 watts per channel, with an IHF of of 110 watts per channel.
Perhaps the problem is those people just don't know what headroom is.
chasaboo 01-20-2009, 07:04 PM Wow, totally blown away by this receiver. Finished my serious listening yesterday with him and I'm very impressed. Wish I'd gotten one of these 3300s sooner!
This has to be about one of the warmest sounding receivers I've ever heard for SS. Also this unit gets a big thumbs up from the girlfriend. She likes the look of the green/blue dial, the silver face and the wood case.
Best part about this receiver I think is that it sounds very good at low listening levels. I've got it paired up with some Sansui AS-100 speakers that I fixed awhile back. Talk about a match made in heaven!
This receiver is not leaving the house, ever. :thmbsp:
kretinus 01-20-2009, 10:18 PM I've found walnut cases have a powerful effect on my wife.
chasaboo 01-22-2009, 08:51 PM Must make mental note, chicks dig walnut. :thmbsp:
kretinus 01-22-2009, 09:27 PM We were sitting in our just put the finshing touches on our living room tonight having supper and my wife commented how well the vintage gear went with the room, especially the SP-300s with their little halogen spots shining down on them.
roerdomp16e 01-23-2009, 12:36 PM Hi Sansui lovers, some knew it existed once in a time v-fets were the top of the ranks. But Sansui built aswell.
This is my, only Japan 100 Volt, with minor changes to make it work with sony v-fets. This modification will make it last longer since there are still plenty around. I have not heard it yet. Can't find the proper 100 volt transformer.

bluesky 01-25-2009, 10:13 PM 3300 - mighty fine looking amp! Looks new!! Super great find!!
The same thing happen to me once but only with a Fender guitar amp. We went to this lady's house and she had a 'Fender Twin Reverb Amp', darn near mint shape, been in the closet for some 20 years or so under a cover. She said the same exact thing, word for word, "just get this thing out of here". She hated that 'thing' in the closet and just wanted it 'gone'.
Gave her $100 and she was totally happy, so was I, or I guess I should say so was my brother, I gave it to him, he's the musician in the family. My brother plugged it in, plugged in his guitar, and it worked Perfect! One of the best 10 guitar amps in the world, so they say. They sure made good stuff in the old days!
Maybe I should go 'hunting' some more. And it would be fun!
Mighty fine lookin amp!! Really Nice!! Congrads!!
chasaboo 01-26-2009, 09:51 AM Funny you mention "hunting" because that's what it comes down to in a ways.
One of my first questions when asking about older equipment is if they are the original owners, then I follow up with if they have any other old electronics they want to get rid of.
The first question helps me weed out guys who are buying stuff cheap and then trying to flip it because it doesn't work right or they're trying to make money.
The second question finds the hidden gems out there in closets, attics, and garages. I hadn't been doing well finding good vintage stuff until I came up with this system. So far this new year I've scored about 6 nice pieces for an average price of about $13 a piece.
And BTW I think the G-4700 is an underrated Sansui receiver. I love the odd mix of the digital with the analog on the face, plus the LED power meters, and truly amazing sound for rock, blues and jazz. It's not as happy doing classical but still, not that bad!
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. :D
