My buddys dad has 8ish pairs, i have a pair, and i just saw a pic someone posted of an ohm, with what i think is a monitor IIa under it. These are def my favorite speakers. i cant get over how great they sound. 22hz-28khz, theyre power hungry tho. my reciever just cant feed them enough. they come to life right as im running out of amp. lol. 400 watts per speaker would be nice.
so whos got some, wheres the pics?

Those were mine with the Walsh 2's on top - a less than desirable situation but the only way I can keep both sets of speakers in service presently.
I bought the IIa's new in 1976 in Los Angeles and they have been in continuous service ever since. Back then I used an SAE preamp/Phase Linear 400 amp to power them. Those components sadly are long gone. I restored and recapped the Infinity's a year or so ago but have now replaced them as my primary speakers with a pair of Infinity RS 2.5's, so they are currently in my crowded home office driven by, among other things, a Soundcraftsmen SP4002 Preamp and MA5002 amp similar to the lower amp in my avatar except with the big VU meters. I can also switch in some vintage Sony components, an STR-GX9ES receiver and a TA-E1000ESD/TA-N330ES combo, and I can confirm that they sound way better with the brute power of the Soundcraftsmen.

yea, its too bad theyre so hard to find. Im going to clone the ones i have this summer, the boxes look fairly simple to copy. Crossover looks easy too. finding drivers will be a challenge tho. Ill probably have to use some PE's until ebay gives up what i need.

I've acquired a full set of spares from various sources over the last year or so - Woofers from a pair of 1001's which were low end Infinity's from the early 70's which had the same doped paper cone woofers but not much else to speak of, Walsh and dome tweeters from a pair of trashed Monitor's, the predecessor to the II and IIa, and a pair of loose dome mids from "that" auction site because the mids in the Monitor's I bought were different than those in the IIa's. The IIa mid-domes were also used in some of the Quantum series.
All of the IIa drivers come up for sale at various times and in one form or another. You just have to be vigilant, patient, and lucky.
