Found one yesterday on ebay. Its a three head unit with the ultra modern flat panel design. I have heard some good things on this deck.

Any thoughts guys? I wonder who has used one in this series??

I have a couple of DRM-3's. I got my first one on Ebay years ago. It went under the radar. I got it for $10! After that I found another that I keep as a parts unit. One of it's tiny buttons doesn't work right. That series, especially the 3 and 4, have it all as far as function. I don't care for the tiny buttons and the panel layout particularly but the playback and record performance is stellar!

I always said if you can find a cassette deck from the early 80's that has 3 heads with a direct drive system and a bias adjustment that you stand the best chance of having an outstanding deck that will still function properly.

The other deck (line) that I think a lot of is the Sony TC-K series. I have the TC-K615S. It is one of the Sony's from the 90's that has 3 heads, Dolby S, Sapphire capstan base with a 2 motor transport, Dolby HX and a bias adjustment with calibration. I found mine at a thrift store also for $10. You may want to keep an eye out for one of them. Good Luck! Franksta

I would buy it depending on price and condition. But, ask about the head wear. Is there a visible tape path ground into the head or is the surface of the head completely flat. Also ask if all functions work properly.

Here is a link about it below, also put it in your favorites if you haven't already.

I too have a DR-M3. I liked it just fine, but snagged a DRM-44HX, so it's been forced to backup duty.
It should suit you fine.

I picked one up from the bin 2 years ago. The mechanics worked very well and it is the best sounding cassettedeck in the household in competition with a Marantz 5025, a Nad and a Sony Transportable. Nice top end. I only use it for playing old tapes, no recording.

Great responses everyone. I cannot wait until it gets here the unit is in beautiful condition cosmetically and runs great according to the seller. I am hoping the hours are few and head wear is not a problem. I am surprised to see how many people have the DR-M44HX as well. I recently purchased a mint condition M24HX I am also waiting for. So I will have two three head units. Will I then be retiring the M2 as well?

I really love to record on cassette and the news on the Denon DR-M2 is exciting. It does not have the CTS but I have lived without it all my life I think I can adjust the bias OK using Source monitor.

Thanks everyone for helping me on this unit. I will report back with my findings. Oh yeah, I bought a Sony receiver STR-AV460 (similar look) I may use it with. I will post a pic of them together. I don't know much about the 460 except that this one sounds beautiful. I love the Denon decks, aren't they great?
Thanks!
