Recently, after owning my C2200s about a year, I finally bit the bullet and bought from a reputable tube person some NOS RCAs to replace all eight tubes in each preamp. (The Telefunkens were just too rich for my blood and this gentleman assured me that some actually prefer these particular RCAs for their tonal balance.)
At first I thought maybe something was wrong: where was the "detail?" But I knew that I should give the tubes a chance to burn in (after all they are 50 years old) and my ears to adjust. So I did.
I can only say that after now listening for 2+ weeks, I can say that the true potential of the C2200s has been achieved. The music is sweeter. But what I notice the most is the vastly increased 3-D soundstage. I can now close my eyes and precisely "see" the performers in the studio or on the stage. Very spooky and very special.
I figure most of you folks have already made the switch. But if anyone out there is still holding back...
