What is this weird text thing I am getting on my My Yahoo page and other places like Craigslist? Sometime there is one or two sometimes there are many. They are a replacement for something I suspect but they puzzle me enough to ask. The #s in the box are mostly different from each other.

Maybe it's a secret alien code? They could be trying to make contact with you! :scratch2:

I think it's replacement for language character sets which your computer doesn't have installed. I've seen them on YouTube pages with videos from Japan. I don't have the character sets for foreign languages installed.

I'm still puzzled.

Either 1) It's the character encoding - the sites are set differently than your browser. Cycling through the available options in your browser should yield the correct characters. Or 2) You are missing some basic system-level fonts.

I go to YouTube often, and CL everyday... Never seen that thing. I'd say it's evidence of some sort of keylogger or spyware. Probably not a virus, but I'd investigate further and get it removed, if indeed it's not due to a missing language character font, as some do suggest.

Usually the garbage you get at illicit websites (not only porn, but many other places), will show up as all kinds of pop-up ads. Try a good adware scanning program and see if you have some spyware/adware. I can't recommend any particular software, but probably others will ring in.

I've noticed it too and think it coincided with my switch from IE to Firefox.

This is not a pop up. It just appears within a line of html text as just another character. Sometimes there are a lot of them in one line. I believe I have only seen these in titles but am not 100% sure of that.

Mine show up in the text of YaHell search results and the like.

My wife just pointed one of those out to me the other day, it was in one her friend's "names" on myspace. It's been bothering me the hell outta me what is that?
