View Full Version : ouch, mht200 has a hum
ltleo 01-27-2009, 01:10 AM :tears: OK I kept hearing this strange hum. from my speakers, this cant be, I had this cured. but wait, there it was again, so after going through everything, i noticed as i was down by the mht, the hum was from inside the unit itself. :scratch2: what could this be? as i put my ear to the the right side ( if you are looking at the front) i can hear this loud hum and vibration. anyone care to take a stab at this? this will be a pain to ship back, and even bigger pain to unhook.
jdandy 01-27-2009, 09:18 AM Perhaps it is nothing more than some loose screws that secure the transformer to the chassis. Take a peek under the hood.
ltleo 01-27-2009, 02:37 PM im really not that good with things like that. well, I just would know what to check. dam, this means i have to take this back to my dealer. maybe I will just upgrade at this point. but can I do the trade up with this unit?
jdandy 01-27-2009, 04:10 PM Itleo.......Qualified models for the McIntosh 2008 Trade Up program includes Receivers, Preamplifiers, Integrated Amplifiers, and Amplifiers.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but no McIntosh Home Theater components, or source components are eligible. Of course, that doesn't mean it has no trade value, it just means it does not qualify for the 75% trade in.
ltleo 01-27-2009, 09:13 PM what do you think the trade in value is?

2 Tickets to Paradise? :D
jdandy 01-27-2009, 09:39 PM Itleo.......Trade in value is like Murphy's Law. The trade value will be inverse to the actual retail value of your new component. In other words........I don't have a clue.
crytklmass 01-27-2009, 10:20 PM If your listening to a hum sound coming from your speakers AFTER you turn on you amp. Check the wall socket. I'll bet it's mis wired in the wall. Maybe its old electrical, just because it has a grounded outlet in the wall doesn't mean it's wired correctly. Mine did the same thing. (they whoever wired the outlet...swapped the neutral and hot.) All I did was shut power off the that circuit, re-routed the wires correctly. and waaa laaaaa. all fixed. you can buy a cheap socket tester and any electronics/hardware store. you should double check ALL the outlets, you may learn others are mis ran as well. b.t.w. please let me know if this is the problem.
crytklmass 01-27-2009, 10:26 PM Forgot to mention, for a quick check before you do anything else, plug your amp into a kitchen outlet or your bathroom. They should be wired correctly according to code. IF they work with no feedback, then its the outlet. refer to above post.
jdandy 01-27-2009, 10:35 PM crytklmass.......Itleo stated the hum noise and vibration were inside the MHT200 itself, not coming from the speakers.
