Looking to pair some bookshelf speakers with a newly acquired MA5100. This will be used in computer system consisting of a MSB DAC outputting 24/96 into the MA5100. I also have a small subwoofer.

Any suggestions that won't break the bank?

You might be able to find a pair of B&W 686s around for relatively cheap ($300), as a lot of places are having trouble moving them. I bought a pair for my bedroom (with a Sonos), but ended up returning them because they were a bit too bassy for the bookshelves on which they'd have to live. Great little speakers, though.

I bought a used pair of Quad L-ite (also known as the 11L) for my son's NAD 3020, and I like them very much. My preferences tend to neutral, BBC-style speakers, and these were pretty satisfying, especially for the price. The are also very attractive, especially in the burnished wood finish.

I've had ar4a's with my ma-6100 and I like the sound they produce. The pot for adjusting the tweeter almost never works right so I just bypass it .Its always been my favorite acoustic research speaker.

As well as AR4A speakers, the Smaller Advent is superb with this amplifier and the MAC 1700 receiver. My baby's room uses a MAC 1700, Smaller Advents, and a B&O Beogram CDX CD player for tunes. Bjorn loves chamber music and jazz. He's 13 months old and superb on my lap. He does have spina bifida as does his older adopted brother, Erik and my wife and I.

Outstanding. What a cool dad to fill his kid's room with great gear and great sounds at such a young age. He will no doubt grow up loving music and associating it with fine times on Dad's lap. That stuff sticks with you. Well done. :thmbsp:

EPI M50s. The EPIs have the only tweeter from the American Golden Age that can perform up to modern dome tweeter standards. I can not say that for the tweeters in 70s Advent or ARs. Woofers are another matter.

Take a listen to Epos. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I second that : the QUAD 11L are wonderful and inexpensive.
I would also recommend second hand if your budget is lower : TANNOY AUTOGRAPH MINI, PMC DB1 or TB2 ( i or not ), and the best of all, the ATOHM GT1, but I doubt you could find the ATOHM second hand....

Good luck !
