Hello fellow Pioneer fans. I have aquired a P-D70 cdp a few months ago. The unit is absolutely beautiful cosmetically and sounds very good. Its build construction is awsome! I use it in my main stereo set up. Ocasionally when I put a cd in and push start, the cd player will take a few seconds to try and find the first track, but ends up going and starts playing somewere in the middle of the disc. When I stop and push start again it some times starts at the begining of the cd, and sometimes I just make it start at the begining by manual search button. This is using a store recorded cd. I do not use or have any homemade burnt cd's. I opened the unit up and blew out what little dust and grime were inside using CRC Duster and Q-tips. All the other functions of the player work properly. I don't know if this is a mechanical or electrical cause. Was wondering if anyone has any input to this glitch or is it just par for the unit considering its age. I am going to keep this unit, just wondering if there is a simple fix. Thanks.:scratch2:

This is almost certainly an alignment issue (presuming the optics are still okay). I would be looking at tracking (E/F) balance, tracking offset and tracking gain.

Try replacing the inner track sense switch. Early units were extrordinarily sensitive to the start position. This switchtells the player where the Table of Contents begin. Some switches cause the pickup to jump, especially if the slide breaing is at all sticky. Clean the slide shaft with a rag sprayed with WD40.

You know, Nakdoc, I forgot all about that. We had a series of CD players at JVC that the inner limit switches would get dirty and freak out the micro. Never thought about it on the PI beause the only P-D70 I have ever seen is... well, MINE.

Good call! +3, I would try that.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will take a look inside it again for those items. The glitch is definately intermitent, and only happens about half the times at start up. Thanks!
