I apologize for my ignorance. I'm familiar with Pioneer's units, and Marantz's, and I know that Klipsch makes good speakers...
What does Linn make? Turntables? Receivers? Sorry for the vague, uninformed question but I see that Linn has its own forum, so they must've done something right at one point in time.
Care to teach me a little something?

Seems a vague answer but it's pretty accurate.

Wow, that is a newbie question :D How about for starters perhaps the finest engineered, and debatably finest sounding, cd player ever made; the cd 12.

And the most sucessful turntable of all time (I didn't say the best sounding)
And not to mention their own label of music production, with company signed virtuosos. These recordings are highly regarded as audiophile quality recordings. read the reviews ; Linn records (http://www.linnrecords.com/reviews.aspx)

Linn is very good for finely engineered, superbly made audio. You may not agree with everything Ivor Tefenbrun espouses, but he makes some superb products. I would advise hearing some Linn equipment, especially their turntable and CD players. I do think if your sources are inferior, your playback is compromised downstream.

Linn still make a fine turntable. ( Sondek LP12 )
I haven't heard their recent HD streaming stuff, but their CD players were good.
As far as amps go, while competent, I don't think they are particularly successful. ( I'm sure Linnie will disagree )
For speakers, they stopped making anything worthwhile after Kan,Sara and Isobariks.

As mentioned Linn is best known for their sources ( analog and digital) but their speakers and amps are nothing to laugh at either. They are an upscale marquee but not so upscale as to be out of touch with reality. Linnophiles are a rabid bunch.
