from my www research, .. these present fairly difficult loads, .. with the woofer dipping to 2ohm at times, .. will the macintosh 2100 be upto it in the long run.
also, i'll have to listen to them, .. but i have some initial concerns about the big 12" keeping up with the EMIT / EMIM drivers

I have been fortunate enought to hear the 2.5's be driven by a 2105.
The 2105 was screaming for mercy at anything much above back groud listening levels. They sure sounded nice together till the amp ran out of steam.
Other things to conisider besided being under powered by the 2100 are there was a active EQ and you will want that as well.
The shop I heard these are was asking 600.00 then they dropped the price to 500.00. I think they finally sold once they dipped into the high 300-low 400.00 range.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the honest advice, . sure breaks my bubble, .. but anyways, .. i might go listen to them just to see
they do come with the active hardware etc and i think are also setup for bi-amping.
i guess i could use my marantz and mcintosh to biamp the top/ bottom,.. but i suspect it wouldn't help much as i think the bass section is what's eating up the watts.

seems like what i recall is that you would want something like a carver SS amp, or a Phase Linear 400 or maybe an Adcom gfa-555 to drive them dogs along....

I have a pair of the Quantum 3s that have the watkins woofers in them.My Pioneer sx-5590 will drive them to a good level but runs out of steam too, same for the Yamaha ca-2010.But they do sound good. The soundcraftsmen amps I have,(2)Ma5002,Ma5002a,And the Pa5001 are the only amps that can drive them with lots of headroom. They are 250 rms 8 ohms and 300 rms into 4ohms.If you had the amp I believe you would not go back to much of anything else if you had some vintage infinitys, not all but the ones with the watkins woofers and the emits are just exctacy.Go listen and tell us what you think.

i'll be meeting up with the gentleman this saturday or sunday morning (he incidently also has a adcom gfa 555 for sale and a soundcraftsmen Ma5002 too, .. but that's stretching my budget)
if i do pick these suckers up, .. i'll have to sacrifice one of my amps to make some money (and space) for a big-dog power amp.

went over to look at these things today
cosmetic condition: quite good, .. impressive
the woofer surrounds seem intact
the damping foam on the midrange / tweeter is rotting away, .. but that should be easy to replace.
the bad news
almost all the EMIM / EMIT ribbon drivers are shredded in parts, .. they all work, except one EMIM midrange which is dead.
the good news
Even with the above defect, .. the speakers sound wonderful, .. sky high treble which isn't harsh, detailed mids.. big bottom end from the sealed 12" watkins, .. a teeny bit flabby but that could be the amplification (powered off a low end yamaha integrated for demo) .. .. in short, .. the "delicate sound of thunder" ... definately a desirable item
before i commitneed to do some research on fixing the bad EMIM mid (at least the ribbon diaphragm) for now and long term , .. dealing with the other planars. unfortunately, .. infinity, ..in its "infinite wisdom", .. no longer produce parts for these superb ribbon drivers. seen some repair info on the web and also vague references to replacement diaphragms, .. need to follow up on that next week
