Wednesday I was the high bidder on an SX-1010
for $125, item no 5706380736. There are some case blems shown in the photos and
a blem on the top part of the face.
But this is a pretty good deal, right? Assuming everything works as it should.

Yes, you got a classic, big sweetie. The first receiver to boast 100 watts a channel!
Good luck and happy listening!

But this is a pretty good deal, right?
After just refunding money on my last three auctions to buyers with almost no feedback I might talk harder than I should. Be advised I am not aiming at you but speaking in general.
But I gotta say again before bidding and especially before buying reasearch your item thourally. Too many buyers buy first and when they get the piece they bought then they decide it wasnt what they thought or what they wanted.
I just had to eat my SX-828 because the buyer says the Subsonic filter doesnt work. . . I mean how in the world can you tell listening to FM radio that the subsonic filter works or not. But because I said everything works perfect he got me. . . At least I am not going to argue about it. The fact is the 828 wasnt what he thought it was and he has changed his mind. . .
the SX-1010 is a wonderful receiver when it is in top working condition but it can be a big boat anchor if it doesnt work and you have no way to get it fixed. I hope your 1010 works perfect if so you will love it. I truly hope this is the case.

Yeah, it was pretty much an impulse buy.
I should know better and was actually hoping I'd be outbid.
Hopefully it'll be working well.
If not, I have a great tech here in town. I just hope I don't have to get him to do any work on it.
Fingers crossed.

I would have argued with him about that. You can't tell if a subsonic filter isn't working by listening to the radio, or really even listening at all. You have to play a record and watch your woofers while tapping your turntable base.
He's ignorant about audio, and you shouldn't have to eat that lovely SX-828. I'd have been more than happy to eat it (if I could have afforded it :D )

thats what I know but I am not going to make an issue about it. I have told him that my responsibility as a seller is to deliver the item as described and that once I get it home and check it out and fix it then we will talk again. . . I feel like sending it right back to him, I am paying for UPS to pick it up and all the shipping both ways. . . Trying to avoid a neg. . . So far I have 243 pos. 100% and no neg. . . Looks like it will hurt his 15 more than my 243 but why fight over it anyway. . . Unless it is damaged or something on return. . . Then I will let UPS hold it. . . This guy got a deal too. . .
Sorry to hijack this thread but we are mostly talking the same language. . . .
Talking about hopeing you get outbid. . . . Use your watch section then suprise attack at the end. . . Once bidding starts there are those who will just bid you up for the fun of it. I understand however I have been there too. . . A SX-1010 is not hard to clean up just hope everything works and works right. . .
Check out that subsonic filter. . .LOL. . .

/thread hijack alert..

Unless he has a signal gen and an O-scope, he would not have a way of telling. Smacking a turntable whist running is a poor way of checking, since the filter has a slope, and is not a 'brick wall' for infrasonics. I'd call his bullshit bluff and tell him to ship it back.

tell him to ship it back.
Done. . . I even scheduled a UPS truck to be at his house Tuesday. . . I still have his money and although I intend to refund it . . . It will be after he sweats as much as I did waiting for it to get back home. . .
Looks like my first neg is comming and going at the same time. . . .
Then today another newbie buys an amp I had for sale then decides to ask after the fact can I wait untill after the 9th for payment. . . Why didnt he ask first???
Oh well the Big Game is mine tonight all 290mil of it then I will pay rent to Lambo for space in his thread. . .
Sorry Lambo but you know how it is when nature takes its course. . . .

Lambo, you're in the same boat I was in a couple months ago. I, too, got a 1010 on ebay. It was sort of an impulse buy, but I got the bug by lurking around this forum and decided to get a big Pioneer like I always wanted. I would have prefered a SX-1050 or one of it's silver-faced bigger brothers. but the 1010 was local (so no shipping) and everyone here at AK raves about them.
I'll tell ya, it's the best $122 I've spent in a long time! I had all these visions of it turning out to be junk and thinking of all the stuff that could be wrong with it that the seller had somehow forgot to mention, but it turned out OK. She ain't the prettiest lady on the block but she sure can sing!
I hope you have as good luck as I did. You won't even remember that $125.
