Do you have a music bucket list? Pieces of music you'd like to own before you kick the other bucket...

A couple that come to my mind would be the Beatles' Revolver and Rubber Soul albums.

Whats the problem then?
You can find those Beatles titles on vinyl in most used record stores.
(Likely will not be exex, of course.)

.....
My wantlist is maybe 300 items.
Like a true collector - Im not about to divulge them here.

Problem? No problem. Maybe you can find those Beatles albums in your local record store, but not mine. At least not yet.

If this thread doesn't interest you, feel free to ignore it.

my Holy Grail of Unobtainable Music is a local album called 'Sands of Time' by a group of that name. about 10 years ago. One of the local stations played some cuts from it on their Local Music hour. Names connected are Bloxom and Sharpley (I think); songs like Warmer, Your Only Lover and Waterman's Song. I've been trying for years to track down the people who did it, flea markets, Amazon, regional stores, etc. I found it listed on some CD Directory, but no publisher or sales info. I'm not 100% sure it was ever released commercially!
one I DID obtain, was Huxton Creepers' '12 Days to Paris'; I had a cassette and got someone to digitalize it for me. Sweet! NEVER thought I'd have that in cd format.

yes, that's the kind of treasure I was talking about. Maybe I wasn't quite clear enough in my OP. Another one of my "white whales" is the Stones' "Exile on Main Street" -- I realize some of these albums are out there for the right price. But it's more fun to keep eyes peeled locally and see it at some garage sale, used record store, etc.

yes, the internet has changed the proverbial paradigm; pretty much any widely released album is available from Amazon just by clicking a few buttons. I remember my sister bady wanting Stephen Still's 'Songs for Beginners' (awesome album, by the way); she never saw it at Big Box store or the local CD outlet. I had it for her for that Christmas, along with his follow-up (don't recall the title).
I have a total man-crush on Amazon. I have bought dozens of musicas obscura-- Ocean Blue, Pale Saints, Lush, Seekonk, Slowdive, Fiel Garvie--for less than $5 (that INCLUDES shipping!), and usually get to listen to the samples. having said that, I love to find obscure treasures at the flea markets, which is how I got introduced to Star 69, Renaissance, Pure Reason Revolution, and others. I don't even bother going to retail stores anymore. Would be different if we had a college-type store with new and used and all sorts of off-the-wall stuff, but wherever you go you find the same top 40 / greatest hits drek. I remember a store in Cleveland TN where they had players in the store and you could listen to samples of anything on the shelf.
happy hunting all

Back in the haze of the seventh decade of the last century my next door neighbor had a Mountain album that had a full side version of Nantucket Sleighride. IIRC the jacket was basically white with embossed artwork. Never seen a copy since. Sad thing is maybe it was just the THC, but I don't think so.

I believe I have every Mountain recording, official and boot, boot vids, etc.
I've never heard of the album you've described. but this would definitely be something on my Bucket List.

Maybe a promo? I've never seen one.

There is Mountain Live (The Road Goes Ever On) which has one side with Nantucket Sleighride. (Leslie West once said that he never liked this song!.)

Then there is Twin Peaks, which I'm sure you've heard of, that takes the entire 2 sides of disc two.

It may have been a promo because it was notched and he got for $2 out of the bargain bin at K-Mart or somewhere similar.

If your friend bought it out of a K Mart bin in the early '70's, then I would think that the leftovers went back to the label/distributor, making this even less likely to find.

Damn, I want this.

That was Graham Nash, btw. :) His follow-up album was Wild Tales.

I'd like to find a copy of Dave Brubeck's Countdown: Time In Outer Space on cd (or vinyl). Yes, I know Amazon Marketplace sellers have copies but I'm hoping to walk into a music shop like Encore Records in Ann Arbor and find it on the shelf for $7.

Cheers

Whats the Ann Arbor used record situation like now?
I used to go there frequently in the 90s.

I remember one record store owner -bit aways from the main strip - had quite an impressive vocabulary on him.

You might be thinking of PJ's Records. Decent selection of vinyl and he grades them very well. The dude is a walking encyclopedia of music too. Encore Records has a very impressive collection of used vinyl and cds. By far the most extensive Jazz section I've ever seen in any used or new music store. I could spend hours in there. It's my favorite place to shop for music.

Cheers

Yes, Graham Nash! you are correct. knew it was someond from CSN. the follow up was 'Songs for Survivors'. my sis didn't think it existed on CD; I found it in 30 seconds.

I had an old Hollies album on 8-track I've never been able to find on cd (Fire down Below, Star).
I wonder how often station-only samplers leak out to the public. I was at a flea market last fall and this woman had two dozen cds label 'promo only'. makes you wonder what's out there...
