View Full Version : I was benevolent today-and I am ok with it...No those aren't tears you see...
Red_Wing 02-08-2009, 10:22 PM I gave up my Marantz 2275 tonight...My brother really wanted it and after a month of being conflicted...I acquiesced...
My Q is...have you guys had to depart with a beloved vintage piece of equipment, and is Karma gonna work for me...LOL! ;-)
qboneus 02-08-2009, 10:26 PM Yes,
I feel good everytime I go to one of my 'adoptee's' homes and see them being happily used.:music::yes:
Far better than collapsing a shelf here!
you did the right thing.
cheers,
Tal
tarior 02-09-2009, 12:05 AM Yes. A friend fell in love with my McIntosh ML-2Cs. I didn't give them away, but almost.
Arkay 02-09-2009, 03:34 AM I wish someone would fall madly in love with some of the gear that I actually want to get rid of. That would make the AGHAST (anti gear-for-home acquisition syndrome treatment) process much easier! :D
secondslc 02-09-2009, 07:55 AM First restoration, and im most proud of it.

I gave it to my brother.
But at least He can let her breathe in a bigger space. And anybody that stops by loves it. Plus....I can visit it!
gearhound 02-09-2009, 09:11 AM A very close friend of mine.....scrimped and saved.....to open his own business.
For his "Grand Opening".....I gave him my old Pilot tube receiver.....to serenade his customers with.
30 years later.....it's still serenading his customers.............
Never one second of regret (well.....maybe one or two?).

Red_Wing 02-09-2009, 02:34 PM What great stories!
It was my first big Marantz receiver, I have a 2220, but the 2275 drove my large advents so nicely...
He's had a tough time of it lately, and in all honesty, it was worth it just to see the look in his eye when we set it up and jammed out at his pad!

You will repaid many times over! Well Done!!
Tinyelvis 02-09-2009, 02:40 PM Feels good, huh?
qboneus 02-09-2009, 03:23 PM IMNHO It's one of the best parts of vintage audio and nice 'score' or 'bolly'; I love to be able to enjoy that feeling of passing something so powerful as the gift or sound, IN A WAY.
Many of us have so many systems we forget what it would be like to have no stereo whatever or even worse, only have and know BPC.
It is hard to imagine that there are people out there who are extremely unfortunate in their lack of decent audio.
I KNOW there are at LEAST a 1/2 dozen people I know and work with that would be at best listening to a bpc boombox, or maybe go way out and purchase one of those beastly sony/JVC/insignia/insert brand here mega bass systems.
I have yet to be dissapointed and it ALWAYS :banana:makes my day when they show their gear off to me, proud as could be and tell me how much they and everyone who gets use of it love it.
So IN my case it's selfless:yes:, BUT selfish too?::naughty:
Good work keeping the Karma flowing all!

Jailtime 02-09-2009, 07:06 PM You did well sharing the sound of Marantz with another, especially when it's a 2275! I haven't given any gear away yet, but I have a project 2220B that I'm going to restore as a gift. It's going to be nice when I get it done in the next few months, but I already have my own 2220. If you've read any threads here on AK, good karma always follows a generous act. :thmbsp:
