1. Serviced 701 had developed a curious problem with auto cue. Cue switch activated, arm raises, begins to move but can't complete cycle to edge of record... unless it gets a gentle nudge. Then, its OK. Dual 701 service manual's only suggestion is that there is contamination in the lift mechanism lubrication. My only guess is to try lubricating the entire auto-cue mechanism, as per the manual. Any other ideas?
2. I've only just learned that this model has a muting function at end of play. This has never worked, and I can't find a remedy solution in the SM. Clean the relay?
Thanks,
Ant

I believe these also had a clutch pad a/k/a "guide white", sounds like the classic symptom of a worn/split clutch pad.

Bill is right. The little clutch pad is bad. Make one that is the same design and dimensions as the little black plastic tip #59 in diagram. I make mine from little pieces of rubber or urethane gotten from automobile suspension bushings. When installed, use only rubber-safe grease, or leave clean and dry. See what works best.
Install as a replacement for part #167 .
The must switch works by shorting green to red and white to blue conductors when the gear rotates. Be certain that this working as desired.

Thanks Bill.
Seth- I understand, appreciate you taking the time to answer. Will give the clutch pad replacement a go. I see how the mute switch works- I cleaned the arms and they appear to be contacting. I'll give them another go.
And yes- Ben Harper Lifeline is just a bit rolled off on the top end:music:
Cheers.
