Hi,
I just recently upgraded the standard fitted Goldring Elektra for a Goldring 1042 on my NAD 533 turntable. I notice that the sound stage and detail are much better, but it's also a wee bit bright.
The Rega RB250-like arm on the 533 doesn't have any VTA adjustment, so that may have something to do with it. The 1042 cartridge itself is certainly a bit higher than the Elektra. I have read that the 1042 may be sensitive to VTA, so I may have to get an after market VTA adjuster. I have experimented with a 3mm washer to no avail, but that's pretty limited testing.
Another option is that my existing phono stage, an inexpensive NAD PP-1, may be showing its limitations here.
Any thoughts on the brightness of the 1042 in this setup?
