View Full Version : Nudie Reel to Reel Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 02:10 AM Anyone know what this is ? Question for today:D mhardy6647 07-09-2004, 08:53 AM Two control levers makes it look like an Akai. The little VU meters make it look older. That's my guess: an older Akai :-) Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 01:03 PM Yes it's Akai, but what model is it ?:) Made 1967, take a guess. Dynacoman 07-09-2004, 03:50 PM Um, A-101? :D Jim Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 03:55 PM A-101 ? What model is that Jim :dunno: sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 09:40 PM Looks like a 1710......Jeff Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 09:54 PM Jeff is right on the spot:) How did you figure it out ? Do you have the same model or ? Here is the deck when ready: sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 10:13 PM I have a 1722L and a 1722W which is the next in line I believe.Almost looks the same. The meters are what gave it away, mine and later models have the famous orange vu meters which we are all quite familiar with(I think?).Hey what is that! A sansui take up reel on her now!Nice reel TX!....JEFF Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 10:28 PM You are pretty smart Jeff.;) Yes, I mounted the Sansui reel, really like the style of that reel. 1722 is that a direct-drive model with 3 speeds and built in amp ? sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 10:29 PM Here is a 1722.....I think it is pretty much the same as yours only newer looking model.2 speeds and it has speakers built in so you can take it out to the back deck if you wanted??.Do you have any sansui R2R's TX?? Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 10:43 PM Nice looking deck Jeff.;) Never found a 1722 down here. Does it have the same "flappers" for the speakers on the side? Funny I use my 1710 for barbeque partys also:) I have one Sansui sitting here Quad 5550. sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 10:59 PM That is the 1722L.The "L" which I think stands for "luggage"style case.Very portable! It has a carry handle and a hinged front cover,it is all black. The 1722W."W" I think is "woodgrain"style.Speakers are just plastic grills on the side, nothing to fancy.Great little machine though!I have a Sansui SD-7000 which has been quite the pain in the A** ,sorry my BACK lately.I think I may need to find a new de-mag.SOON!My back just can't deal with that again!! Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 11:06 PM You are lucky to have a handle, mine has a wood-cover for the front but nothing to carry it with:mad: My Sansui has a bent reel-table, still plays but wobbles some. Got messed up in shipping, trying to find a replacement motor and table for it. What is wrong with your Sansui, just crackle and pops or ? sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 11:31 PM Well when I try to record, both meters are the same and are maxing out where they should.Everything there looks good! But when I play back after recording one channel is fine the other is much lower and well, maybe slightly distorted.I was thinking it was a loose connection on those monster plugs in the back, but I have clean them.I have cleaned the heads as well.As for de-maging the heads well I haven't yet and I know I should start there.I need a demag.I have looked on The bay but I don't know what's good and what isn't and I don't want to spend a fortune on one either.I did have one but was lost in my last move.It was krap anyways, I think I can recall stepping on it.. Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 11:36 PM What happens when you play a old tape with good recording, is the left channel distorted ? Did you try with a new fresh tape ? Most of the time when heads are magnetized you can hear pop or "crackle" on playback, a hissing sound or very distorted is something else Jeff. PS/ Never step on the demag...they don't like it.:D sixt8mopar 07-09-2004, 11:43 PM When I play good recording on it ,it seems fine ....no problem. Both meters look happy and it sounds good.... Vintage TX 07-09-2004, 11:50 PM Hmm, maybe the record head is worn or tape-guide dirty, did you check that ? sixt8mopar 07-10-2004, 12:02 AM What is the best way to check? What should I be looking for?:dunno:Be pretty nasty to try and find a replacement head for that... Vintage TX 07-10-2004, 12:11 AM Take the head-cover off and look for deep grooves on each side of the tape travelpath, dirty brown residue can get stuck in the grooves and create poor contact for the tape. A magnifier is also a great tool + some good light.;) Finding a new head is not that difficult, the price is around $ 100.00. sixt8mopar 07-10-2004, 03:07 PM TX......After 2 hours last night and 2 more this afternoon i found that the problem was my 8080.Everything works fine with it but when you try to record through it one channel is distorted and low.I swapped it for an 8080db I have.Everything now sounds sweeet! Both channels come out perfect when recording! Thanks for your input TX........ Jeff :D Vintage TX 07-10-2004, 03:50 PM Did you swap the heads or the complete deck ? Sorry I am confused:p: sixt8mopar 07-10-2004, 03:58 PM It was the receiver.Sansui 8080.Now running my 8080db.Here she is..... Vintage TX 07-10-2004, 04:04 PM OH, so the amp was the problem:D Now i understand Jeff. Great you got everything working again. |
