Any Dual experts here at AK? If so can you provide any guidance as to where I can secure a replacement headshell/cartridge holder ? (not sure what Dual actually calls the slides that hold the cartridge)

Let me know. Thanks.

Thanks Don. Looks like the part I need, and I placed an order.....

Unfortunately it cost me $6. more than the turntable itself :grumpy:

You running any Dual turntables over on your end of the planet ?

No problems. Still, if it helps you use the turntable, or fit a different cartridge, then it should be worth it. No, I haven't got any Duals, but a colleague used to have a 741Q, which was their top model in the early 1980's, and used to love it. I'm sure there are plenty around here though, as they were well put together, and popular. I knew about Garage-a-Records from looking for obscure turntable parts - they often have them, and have an excellent range of headshells and cartridge holders.

Don, Yeah, $41 for a headshell, + $35 for the turntable = $76... not bad for a vintage piece of this calibre. I was just commenting on the irony of the headshell costing MORE than the table. I think I've got a couple NOS Grado cartridges laying around here somewhere........... so potentially I could be up and running with this soon.

Thanks again for your help.

You need to be careful. These tables were originally set up with the ULM arm. Came with an Ortofon cartridge and that's it. Dual offered a kit that changed it from the ULM to the standard 1/2" mount, but the kit also included an added weight that screwed on the back of the counterbalance, as the 1/2" mount carts weigh more than the Ortofon, and without the added weight, the tonearm won't balance - too nose heavy.

Hooo boy. The plot thickens. I actually found my current (needs repair) cartridge mount. Pix attached. IIRC, when I got the turntable it had a Micro Acoustics cartridge installed.

A standard Dual TK-24. !/2: mount headshell - easily found. Will come black - paint silver, if you like.
