Well Ladies & Gents, I finally got to hear it, the famed Divotdog TD145 (http://http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=149222&page=2). I was blown away not only by the beautiful sound this machine was capable of recreating but also the looks! Divotdog put in a lot of hours to rebuild the plinth and create the platform the whole thing sits on and I got to tell ya, pictures do not do it justice!

He had was running it through an Adcom amplifier and preamp combo and ended in a nice pair of Klipsch Heresy's. The sound moved around the room like fluid and was as crisp and clear as I ever heard. This was also my first introduction to horns.

Thanks Dad, now I am going to have to upgrade my gear! :thmbsp:

Thanks son, I thought you might enjoy it, it was a lot of fun having you guys here, don't sweat the upgrades, all this will be yours at some point (not too soon I hope).

Here are a couple of glamour shots with the LP I picked up while you were here.

Thanks Howard,

I think there are a couple of father and son members around, Mike didn't stand a chance, he grew up around this stuff!

Nice looking Thorens, the wood is beautiful. :thmbsp:

Audio was one of the hobbies my late Dad and I shared, the other was fishing. Your thread reminded me of those good times, thanks guys.

mwr885,

I got my first introduction to it all last Thursday and you nailed it. I was glad to hear that you were able to get home for a visit and maybe next time you come I will get a chance to meet you as well. I brought my sp10 over for your Dad to look at and he got glassy eyed with thoughts a new plinth for it, because it surely needs one!! Take care and stay safe.

Plans are already spinning around for that SP-10, we will see how many tonearms we can get on that bad boy! :D

Mel, Seeing your table inspired me to put a new bottom on mine yesterday. I also dynamatted the bottom and the sub-platter. If I get ambitious today I will do some more.
Yours is soooooooo nice. No wonder your son is proud.

Thanks Scott, That new bottom plate will make a huge difference in the sound, it was the single best improvement on mine until the new plinth.

Okay today I added Dynamat to the the insides of the plinth, the top plate, left the floating plate alone. News interconnects and did the ground wire fix and I would have to say it sounds pretty darn good. I still have to dial in the VTA on this Grace F-9. Seems like I have to raise it way too much.

Mel, what cartridge are you currently running on yours?

I am running an AT 440-MLa, see this thread (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=212102), although I think it deserves quite a bit more, I would like to hear your thoughts on the Grace.

I think I have a good match with the Grace, but I wonder. My problem is that I cannot seem to form a baseline, which is critical in my manner of thinking. My cognitive retention suffers as the result of a few too many blows to the head, I kid you not.

So I need to A/B things immediately in order to best guage what is an subtle improvement. That's why I like a tonearm that can have it's VTA adjusted "on the fly". I can certainly judge major events in sound quality for better or for worse, but when the minute adjustments come into play I cannot cope and it becomes very frustrating.

Right now I am listening to The Beatles - "Love" and it sounds effortless, but I may be able to dial it in to perfection for this particular turntable, and not being able to achieve that perfection, or know when I have reached it's zenith is driving me nuts. I like things absolute. LOL

I do all this while I have a knocking motor, which I am considering dissassembling, cleaning and re-lubing if possible. The noise is not audible in the transmission, but I know it's there.

Oh okay, yes I have a case of "The Mondays" :)

I kinda liked that band. They were alright. I am still gonna upgrade, if for no other reason to keep Jessica on her toes!

I think there may be a few, it would be interesting to find out though.

You gave him an excuse to play with his powertools and generally work in the garage, of course he got glassy-eyed! lol I hope we can meet up next time. It is always good to meet a fellow AK'er
