Some are missing knobs. The top 2230b is missing all of the knobs but I found them loose inside the case! Good thing I did not power it on. Tower Boss 02-21-2009, 04:41 PM My bag, looked at the middle again and missed on the 2230's. Should have paid attention to headphone the jack! :boring: Regards, TB Jailtime 02-21-2009, 04:53 PM Nice 2235B! The 2230 right under it looks really nice too. Great looking stack of mid WPC Marantz gear. Polish them all up nice, get all the knobs for 'em, and take some good night pics, or some other unique shot. :thmbsp: You got me beat, check the signature! I think you need a big one, like a 2325, to finish that stack off. :D rsfmotoman 02-21-2009, 05:01 PM What's the story with all the Marantz's? Did I miss a post? Jailtime 02-21-2009, 05:14 PM Yeah, where did they all come from? Did you find a 6 Marantz deal recently? I sure hope so! Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 05:40 PM Nice 2235B! I think you need a big one, like a 2325, to finish that stack off. :D I might be working on a 2345 soon. Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 05:42 PM Yeah, where did they all come from? Did you find a 6 Marantz deal recently? I sure hope so! The truth is that only one of these receivers is mine, but the rest are in for a polish and adjustment. They all need sometime done to them, but so far the 2230 and the 2220b that I am working on are responding well. SoCal Sam 02-21-2009, 06:16 PM At one time or another, I've owned all of them except the 2235B! All of them had the same Marantz smoothness and flow. Jailtime 02-21-2009, 06:31 PM You better be careful if you listen to each of those as you work on them. You'll end up wanting all of them. :D I've heard lots of good things about the 2220B and 2245 in particular. I'm a big fan of the 2235B myself. You should pick one of them up, great style and power. My restored one came out to 47 WPC. Still a nice stack, even if they aren't all yours. :thmbsp: Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 07:55 PM I own the 2230 and aside from the 2245 it is the most substantially built. It has two mono amp boards and two heat sinks rather than one stereo on the B units. secondslc 02-21-2009, 08:32 PM I own the 2230 and aside from the 2245 it is the most substantially built. It has two mono amp boards and two heat sinks rather than one stereo on the B units. I believe it, the older the Marantz unit I have, the more tank like it seems. The sound? All wonderful in their own way. Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 08:37 PM I'm replacing the power cord on the 2245... would brown be neutral and blue be hot? secondslc 02-21-2009, 08:50 PM I'm replacing the power cord on the 2245... would brown be neutral and blue be hot? Its AC power, both would be neutral and hot. These units never had polarized plugs. Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 09:02 PM Its AC power, both would be neutral and hot. The 2245 uses a grounded plug (which is what I'm using) so as long as I have the ground right (I do) then it doesn't matter? wajobu 02-21-2009, 09:05 PM Quite the stack! secondslc 02-21-2009, 09:06 PM so it does not matter at all? You are saying it had 3 and the unit has provisions for 3? Should be 2 wires, if its 3...post some pics. I am positive there are three. Inside there is a terminal strip with three connections, and the past cord which looks original (exact same color wire) was connected with three wires to it. One of them immediately connects to the chassis. I'll take some pictures. Sir.Byrd 02-21-2009, 09:14 PM Here we go: I've started to attach the ground wire, I'm awaiting some better solder as the stuff I'm using really bites. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/TigerSword/IMG_1838.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/TigerSword/IMG_1841.jpg secondslc 02-21-2009, 10:24 PM All my original marantz cords looked like this with the name marantz on them. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/3299446418_93ec99e926_b.jpg It looks like there is only a blue and brown wire that goes to the power supply on the 2245 if im looking at it properly. I would use a 2 wire cord or lop off the green wire as its not needed. Unless im mistaken here all 21 marantz pieces I have in this room use 2 prongs.. The third connection goes into the ground, so the ground wire does not need to go further than the chassis. For safety's sake I'm going with 3 prong. I understand that... but what I'm trying to say is that it looks as if it was stock 3 prong on this particular unit because of what was left of the original cord inside the unit. So I was trying to keep 3 prong because that is what it was before, as to keep it "stock." But should I switch back to 2 prong? Its not my unit so I'll run it past who I'm working on it for, who is also an audio geek however he has much more experience than me. Its not my unit so I'll run it past who I'm working on it for, who is also an audio geek however he has much more experience than me. MEANWHILE I'm relamping all 7 receivers, this is going to take some time! I have 45 pieces of equipment in my apartment that use 2 prong. NO marantz piece I have come across has 3 prong except for their 2000+ year built units in their reference series. I find it hard to believe this unit came original with 3 wires. Check the stack of receivers you have, they should all come with a marantz 2 prong branded plug if they are original. My older US built units have a 3 prong plug without the marantz marking....but its still the same deal. If the customer put the 3 prong setup in, I would question what his reasoning was, and point him to the discussion on the "safety" of 3 prong setups. Re-lamping is fun, are you going LED? Sir.Byrd 02-22-2009, 10:36 AM Re-lamping is fun, are you going LED? original for now Sir.Byrd 03-11-2009, 12:48 AM Well, sadly, these are slowly leaving as I finish work on them. I finished the Marantz 2245 yesterday, and the 2230 today, now I'm working on my 2230, its going to be bitchin'. thefragger 03-12-2009, 09:00 PM Someone's been busy! Where did they all come from?! Mine are pink and blue, perhaps your friends blue was on too long and it "burnt" to green, like with old neon? I dunno. Cool speaker huh? |
