Hello Fellow Vintage Enthusiasts:

I have an Announcement to make (said in those words to add a lil' drama and excitement):

The www.classicsansui.com Site seems to be temporarily down but the Message Board is alive, well, and thriving over at the Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) Sansui Group.

I suggested to Dave C, who hosts the site there, that a database should be made available for anyone to post all the models they own and the serial# on their units. My idea regarding this is, if enough people contribute, I could tabulate the results, verify, and further sharpen my knowledge of when various models were made- as the s/n does indicate the month/year it was manufactured (as I revealed on this site recently). I do have a pretty good idea of when most models were made but now and then I discover a few surprises- such as my G-7700 receiver- I thought the last generation G's came out starting in1980, but the s/n on mine indicates an early model- March 79. I also want to verify that the 9090DB & 8080DB-> that the DB models came out a year later in 1977 than their non- DB brothers-- so in this case I wouldnt expect to see any 6's in the 3rd digit of the s/n.

I also thought posting your model and s/n would be beneficial as a theft precaution. I realize should it ever get stolen, recovering it from wherever in the world it could end up in somoene else's possession is a long shot- but hey, its better than nothing!

So, Dave did just create a Database over at the Yahoo Site. And I just made a significant contribution to it which you can see if you visit over there (smile)- just click on Database and you'll see the records. And I just made a nice Printout of it. Being the database is brand new, I'm about the only one who has posted but I'm sure there will be more contributions in the next few days when people find out the database has been created.

So, just thought I'd mention it to anyone- if interested, feel free to post there. Or perhaps if this Site wants to have a Database of their own, and not just for Sansui, but All brands, I think that might be a good idea too- Yes?

ps- I also posted some interesting info on Sansui History over at the Yahoo Sansui Group Mess bd- but it wont be viewable until tomorrow- for some reason when you post a message there- it doesnt go on until the next day- I think good ol Dave likes to screen the messages beforehand.

Regards, B/F.

Hi Jack- Very cool Avatar, thats exactly what I had in mind to make mine - just never got around to it- though I did have some mailing labels made up- look for a nice lil' surprise in the mail in the coming week( or two, as its long distance)

Grumpy- Yes, I realize what youre saying but I guess its up to the Site Host to improve upon that. In the meantime I can live with it.

I must say Ive had a very productive day today over there- I mustve set a personal record for typing. It looks like Dave posts the messages faster on Sundays- what I had mentioned in my Post above- about the Sansui History- its already on the Site Mess Bd. Another member, Isao, has also written some interesting stuff- and he even just listed his temporary Sansui site- Check it out at:

Hi Chris, while I do appreciate your contribution- if you would like to have it on the Yahoo Sansui Group Site- then by all means post it there. My fingers have just about had it for the day with all the typing Ive done- and my eyes from looking at the screen are about ready for a rest now too :)

Hi Fred,

I think it's possible to do a right click and "save as" on the avatar, to save you a bit of time making another one.

Just been reading your history post and some of the other recent ones. Interesting stuff! I'd say your interpretation must be pretty close to the mark. Thanks!:)

Hi Jack:

You mean I can share the Sansui avatar with you? I wasnt sure if we should all have a unique one but I cant think of a more fitting one for me than that- well, except for maybe my idol and who I resemble, Sir Paul McCartney :) Maybe a nice Wings logo would be cool, I'll see.

Oh Jack- the CA-2000 review you sent me- is it just that one page- thats all I see from what I received, wasnt sure if there was another page- do you recall the month/year of the mag it was from- if not, tis ok, no big deal.

Thanx for compliment on the info at Yahoo Sansui- reading the stuff is easy, typing it all in is alot more Work but its something I enjoy doing:)

Just wish the Time over the weekends didnt fly by sooo fast, man, I dont feel like getting up early again tomorrow morning to go to work, sigh.....

Fred,
Sure thing. :) I like to change my avatar every now and then so it doesn't worry me. The other thing I think I can do is change the logo colour on photoshop. But feel free to go ahead with this one.

Yeah, the review was just one page - it was a group test of 11 preamps. I only just got the mag when I made the xerox. What I didn't see at that time was a summary page for specs and facilities and a "conclusions" page which rated the CA2000 as being "above average" and "this unit was highly favoured for being pleasant and easy to listen to, but it suffered marking down for it's rounded, slightly dull character".

Only 3 other preamps rated above the Sansui - the Lux C1000, Lecson AP1 and Naim NAC12. Not a bad result for the ol' Sansui.

From HiFi for Pleasure June '77.

I'll remember the missing pages next time I send something. :)

cheers
Jackie

Hi Jack:

Thanks for the reply. I dont think changing the color is necesary as it looks fine the way it is. Green was the original color of the logo anyway. June 77- just a month earlier than my own actual CA-2000 which will be put into service very soon to drive two AU-X1's thanks to its twin pairs of output jacks- very convenient. As for the reviews- I do find them very informative but I wouldnt take the ranking any particular magazine assigns as the gospel-truth. I have some Buyers Guides that have graphic charts to depict how a bunch of competing products compare to each other- in general they are fairly accurate, but again, I wouldnt say that their opinion should necessarily be carved in stone. Except of course if they say the 9090DB was the greatest receiver ever made :)

Well, I really must hit the sack now as its getting late, ah Monday.....'everybody's favorite day'

Posted my two units just a minute ago - and I left in the "space" in the serial number. You will have to edit them out to remain consistant.

Sorry. Just following orders :>

I had written that post about the serial #'s a while ago. Unfortunately Dave Compton who runs the Yahoo site and I have had some disagreements and I am no longer a member of his Yahoo Group (which suits me fine by the way :finger:

Dunno why he hasnt deleted all those s/n's I posted though...

I mentioned to Isao who hosts the www.sansui.us site to create a s/n database.
