Hello,

So, over the summer, i picked up an AU-217/TU-317 (both out for garbage, but work perfectly). Anyways, fast forward to christmas, and i'm listening to the radio on the 317, and I notice that the tuning is off by about 1mhz on the FM band. So, I decide to open it up, and end up messing with every single pot inside of it :D. Now, the tuning is fixed :thmbsp:, but the AM band is messed as well as the tuning/signal strength displays .

On to the 217, all is fine, opened it to give it a light cleaning. About a week ago, the right channel (on aux only), is giving me some weird static.

Any Ideas to fix these problems?

Thanks,
Mike.

The selector switch probably needs a good contact cleaner bath. (as well as the rest of the switches while you're in there).

I don't mess with tuners. They can bite you in the @$$ if you don't know what you're doing.

Ok, how would I go about cleaning the selector switches? Just pull the front off and spray some cleaner in or is there another way?

Also, any recommendations for a cleaner?

Thanks.

Please look in the search functions for cleaning methods, and review the tuners forum for detail.
Never get any cleaning or other substances on the variable tuning capacitor!
That's the finned looking thing in there.
Get rid of the dust etc. first, or you will create a mud bog.
We like deoxit d5 around here.

DeOxit seems to be the cleaner of choice (I use something different). It can be bought sometimes at Radio Shack, or try a local music/guitar store.

You shouldn't need to pull the face plate - take of the top/side cover (after you unplug the unit) and you should have access to the guts of the switch. Give it a spray (with the tube) and cycle the switch 20-30 (or more) times to work the cleaner in. You may as well do them all while you're in there. Let it dry and give it a try.

If you're uncomfortable doing that, find a good tech.................
