View Full Version : Woo Hoo! Fantasy Football is back
Andyman 07-14-2004, 08:06 PM YowZa Baby!!
I just talked with ProAc and he's allowed me to set up the league this year. Last year was a riot and this year should be even more fun! Right now we're set for 14 teams with 8 in the playoffs, so don't wait to sign up! I can add more, but 14 allows everyone to play everyone once.
It's tons of fun, so get in while you can!

How is the draft being handled this year? MikE
OK, I see we have autodraft again. A max of only 40 moves for the entire season? Could we up that? Rather than just sit back and watch the games I really enjoy being proactive by making changes during the week.
gonefishin 07-22-2004, 10:42 AM If there's still room for more people...I'd love to play again :lazer:
edit add;
MikE, I also thought one of the fun aspects of Fantasy Football was making the moves, rather than simply watching the games.
If you've got someone good...keep him. If you want someone else, let one of your players go. But for every move made, it frees up a player which may fit well into someone else's team. Like when I just picked up all of MikE's rejects ;) thanks again :)
take care>>>>>

You can make all the roster moves between your bench and active roster you want. The 40 moves means you can only pickup (and drop) from waivers 40 times, which is like 3 guys a week. I like limiting it somewhat, as it tends to keep folks from wholesale dumping, but with 14 teams, there probably won't be a whole lot to snatch up after midseason. GF's right about picking guys up; who cut Culpepper last year? That hurt for sure.
BTW, trades are separate, but they have to legit; no Peyton Manning for Emmitt Smiths will be approved!
Andyman 07-22-2004, 05:23 PM OK, only 3 more spots since GoneFishin made #11. I think we'll keep it at 14 overall, because then everyone plays everyone once so there's not strength of schedule issues later on.
I probably won't schedule the draft until late August, so no one gets screwed on training camp injuries. Yahoo will set the draft order around 15 minutes before the draft, so signup order shouldn't have any affect.
For the draft, I suggest pre-ranking if you have some faves, otherwise Yahoo will default to their ranking and select he best available player for you at your turn. So if you really really want my personal fave, Bill Schroeder, now of the Tampa Bay Bucs, you could rank him #1 and be practically guaranteed he'll be dropping balls and running wrong routes for you this year.
Also, I did set it up for fractional points, so if there are 20 yards for a point, 19 gets you 0.95 pts, not 0.00 like last year.
And as I always say, read the rules.
I knew what you meant. I never counted how many times I added / dropped players last year but it must have been pushing or over 40. Sure I gave up some good players but even swaping two equal players was more fun than just holding on to your guys. I always had about three different lineups in my head every week with the players I had, and those on waivers. Kind of opened things up in my mind.
Since I can't look forward to the Chargers doing anything [again] I need a reason to watch the games!

White01L 07-29-2004, 09:01 AM When do we need to have our autodraft lists completed? Never done it this way, had always been in person real time.
Never done an autodraft, how does this autodraft work, I mean suppose it fills out my bench with nothing but receivers, would it do that?
How many players should I select for the autodraft (I'm assuming that no one player can be on more than one team), so should I have like 200 players ranked for the autodraft (14 teams with say 15 players each).
Where can I find rules / regulations etc.? Like what is deadline for roster and/or line up changes during the season?
Thanks. Looking forward to winning this thing my first year!!
Andyman 07-29-2004, 04:47 PM White01L:
When you log into the FF home page and it shows our league, look up in the far upper right hand corner. It has a link there for "Rules". click on that and read it through; it will explain all about the draft, rankings, etc.
I also suggest that you pull down to the lower left and check out the link to "League Settings" . That will open up the link indicating the positions you'll need to draft and how the scoring runs. Pay particular attention to scoring and make sure you select/rank players you feel will maximize your return. As an example, you may want to stay away from a running back who gets the ball downfield, but gets yanked at the goal line and doesn't score TDs.
Good Luck and welcome aboard!
gonefishin 07-29-2004, 09:51 PM This should be fun again!
Andy, we need ta recruit a few more people :( when does our draft start?
tanks,
dan
Andyman 07-29-2004, 10:10 PM GF:
Probably draft in a few weeks, late August just before the real season starts. I want to minimize the guys who draft guys who get hurt or Ricky Williams :D.
There's only 3 spots left and plenty of time until the draft, so I'm not worried at all about filling up the league. Heck, a couple guys could fill it up this weekend!
This whole Fantasy football thing is a riot. The only bad thing about football is it means Summer's coming to a close, but the season is still over a month off.
gonefishin 07-29-2004, 10:13 PM thanks Andy...
...I'd also just like to recommend buying the yahoo stat-tracker. I think it costs $10.00 or so...But for me...it was well worth the enjoyment I got watching my scores, points, and yardage rack up...of course I just hoped mine went higher than my opponents ;)
money well spent.
dan
Andyman 07-29-2004, 10:21 PM Dan:
You're right on with Stat Tracker. I'm in 3 leagues and it's great. No waiting until late sunday or trying to keep track with pencil and paper; it updates in real time so you always know where you stand and what you need to win.
The only issue with being in multiple leagues is having players in one league and playing againste them in another.
Talk about split loyalities!!!
Andyman 08-08-2004, 04:29 PM Hey folks!
With the season starting in about a month, interest in football's gonna start snowballing! Tomorrow night we have the first preseason game on MNF; I can hardly wait!
At any rate, there's only 3 spots left in the league, so if you're thinking about signing up, I'd suggest doing it now before the last three spots are all gone.
Ask anyone who played last year; it's a ton of fun. And not just the play, the trash talk that goes on is worth it all by itself!
Yah cuz I kick all your bitch asses! :D
Andyman 08-08-2004, 05:22 PM Oh, and whuppin' Thor is a very special incentive :D
CarlV 08-08-2004, 06:05 PM Yah cuz I kick all your bitch asses!
:butt1:
Carl
Andyman 08-16-2004, 05:09 PM I can't believe that with over 3,000 members we can only get 11 Macho He-men to sign up for Fantasy Football?? You guys don't know what you're missing.
Forget the football, the friendly competition and smarty pants trash talk is worth joining for by itself (see the last few posts :D) . And you don't have to be a football geek either, although it helps sometimes. The computer will draft you the best available and needed players and all you have to do is pick who you think will score the most Fantasy points each week.
Most of the guys last year were first timers and had a blast, so if your looking for a bit of OT fun, we can use 3 more players.
Just go back to the first post in this thread and follow the instructions to sign up. If you're waiting to make your move, you better do it. As soon as we get 14, the league is full.
So come on in the water's fine!
BTW, Packers-Seahawks tonight!
:ntwrthy: :ntwrthy: Brett Favre!!:ntwrthy: :ntwrthy:
What [prize] are we playing for this year? MikE
Andyman 08-18-2004, 08:33 PM Don't know yet. We never got anything together for last year, so I'm open to suggestions.
One league I'm in has everyone toss $25 in a pot, Superbowl winner take all. My league has a $10 ante, with $20 to the regular season winner and the rest, $80 to the SB winner.
I like keeping it cheap, so I'm fine with everyone with everyone burning a fave CD and tossing it in, winner take all. Or an LP, or some sort of audio dealie. If freight weren't an issue, I'd offer up one of my minor scores.
Anyone else??
gonefishin 08-26-2004, 12:20 AM Whatever you guys decide to play for is fine with me...just let me know. Last time we talked about it...but nothing was decided on.
Well...I just got done participating in my first live on -line draft. It was really kinda neat. I didn't end up with exactly who I wanted...but they have some goofy scoring in that league...and I think I did fairly well. But the scoring sure is goofy! Didn't take long at all...maybe 20 minutes or so.
We still need one more person...I imagine there has to be at least one more person at AK interested in participating...come on. It's a boat load of fun!
What does "BN" represent? MikE
p.s. I see we still have an odd number in our league? Is that a problem?
grumpy 08-26-2004, 04:23 PM Come on guys. Just one more of you join the league. Not like it cost any money and there is no way ANY of you can be worse them me !

Mike:
Where did you see the "BN"? I can't find it.
Yahoo won't let us draft with an odd number, so we need 1 or 3 more folks to sign up. I have a plan, but would like to have one more sign up.
I should have twisted Kam's arm when I had his RCA 2000s' life in my arms Saturday :D
grumpy 08-26-2004, 05:05 PM Worse comes to worse Matt can sign up and complete the league.
Id rather have one of the Guys join.
It really is a lot of fun !
I was looking at our league settings and noticed that we only have one [1] QB this year. That's when I noticed the 4-5 "BN positions" [?].
MikE
p.s. I can probably get a guy at work to fill out our league if that's needed. Let me know.
Andyman 08-26-2004, 08:47 PM Mike:
"BN" is your bench, should be 6 positions. We'll draft 15 players total and you can massage your bench with however you want.
They're your backups or alternates, just like last year.
After the draft, you'll have to decide the mix, and can make moves on waivers.
Let's see if we can't get a fill up this weekend, before we look outside. If anyone hits the chat room, twist some arms in there.
Make sure I get Priest Holmes again Andy, the check is in the mail ;)
Andyman 08-28-2004, 12:15 AM Bump
Andyman 08-28-2004, 09:44 AM Alraight, Grumpy and I talked Dingusboy into joining the madness last night so we are even at 12. I'm locking the league there, and will set the draft for sometime after Wednesday night.
Now, to explain prelisting. The computer will pick your players based on the best available player and position based on the rankings. I think Priest Holmes in #1, so whoever drafts first (computer will set that order to, I believe) would get him., Ladanian thomlinson, would go #2, Ahman Green, #3 and so on. But YOU can edit your prelists and order the players in the order you want them. so if your a big Detroit homey and want Joey Harrington, you could rank him as #1 and probably almost certainly get him (unless someone else mad the same wacky move ahead of you). You can do that with as many players as you like. Yahoo will then rank your players as you indicate and tack on the rest in their order after those you selected. The only real trick is that Yahoo makes you draft all your starters first before you draft your bench. what that means is that you'll draft a kicker and TE before you get a second QB, even though they QBs are rated higher.
If you have any more questions, post them here or PM me and I'll answer them ASAP. I'll let Yahoo know we are Draft ready Wednesday at 5:00PM EDT, so get your rankings done by then.
Woo hoo, this bird is getting ready to fly!!
DingusBoy 08-28-2004, 12:41 PM Ok, I'm ready to roll...but I didn't see Tim Duncan on the list. :dunno:
