Over the years I have not seen a lot of auto cycling problems on Dual turntables. Locked up motors and headshell issues along with idler wheels. Never paid much attention to the automatic mechanisms til lately. Figured out what makes the arm return. Dirt gets in there and the arm wont return. Clean out the dust and a little light sand and the arm works on return. This 1009SK arm would not return after doing the above. You cuold feel it binding up 1/2 way across the record. Get past that and the arm returned. Looking underneath I saw a !/2 verticle shaft. Being carefull I was able to move it. At this point I did not know this piece moves up and down depending what cycle the turntable is in-one for the arm landing and another for auto return. At this piont it now works on auto return but the would not land on the record at the beginning. Playing with it I got it to work at the beginning not the end. Decided to set it to do the auto return and I would use the cue to start it.
Settle for it being semiautomatic.

The big break through came yesterday when an older 1009's arm was binding up and I put it on the bench. This wher I saw that shaft is supposed to be free to move up and down. Once I freed it up with light oil, the 1009SK works perfect. I am so used to the older 1009, I havent paid much attention to its newer brother the 1009SK. Its nice. You get cue and antiskate. Plus a better arm. Put a Shure M91ED on it and you can track at 1 gram. This is one sweet Dual. I had previously cleaned and oiled the motor. Stole the idler off a 1010F and ran into the auto problems which are no more. Put it in my sleeping quarters with a small Pionner amp I found at the landfill with a pr of Aiwa speakers. Put on United Audio's only decent base they sold with plexiglass cover. Have had three different 1009s on this base. Sweet sounding table:thmbsp:Got the digicam to work, pic with and without the cover. After this base United Audio started selling crappy bases with cheap plastic covers:thumbsdn: Could not get the pic with the dust to upload. Its showned with the older 1009 thats going to a friend who wants an automatic. ET
