Just for fun, i calculated the distance between Sydney and Okemos.

This is how i did it...

First - Distance between Sydney and Detroit:

9474 miles

Then, distance between Detroit and Okemos:

84.35 miles

So in total it's only 9558.35 miles - a bit of a drive ;)

If you would have gone to earlier in the thread, there was a mapquest map. I am think you could have calculated from that, but I am not sure.

Dave;
I used to live 3 blocks from you, at the corner of hamilton and Clinton. The funny looking house by the library.
Is the Traveler's Club Tuba Museum restaurant on the corner still open?
I'll be there between 7:30 and 8:00.
With luck and a little work I'll have the AK Gainclone prototype "The Rat That Roared" with me. I just picked up most of the parts from Radio Shack today. I could throw it together in an hour, but I need to document the process, and that means photos of every step.
The only English speakers I have here now are the Lowthers and the LS35As that were already heard at AKfest. I'll bring either if they're needed.
Wait a minute. There's also the Harbeth Compact 7ES speakers boxed and ready to travel. Let me know if you want those for comparison.

See you then
Ross

Anything you want to bring - if can bring the Harbeths - that would be great.

We can compare between my Rogers, Royds and Harbeth.

Looks like we are pushing back the time until 4 - 5:00 PM so that we will all overlap some.

I was still planning food - do people want snacks or a nice meal.

Bau - Tuba Charlie's is still there and probably still looks the same!!!

Hey,

Just got a PM from Gary regarding this. Sounds very cool and I will be there. No wife though. She's gotta work.

Do I need to bring anything? Just let me know.

Lord knows I've got lots of music.

If you have a few favorite tunes that nobody else has heard (vinyl or otherwise) that is great. I will have a TT set up as well as a universal player (Pioneer Elite DV-45A) and maybe a Cassette deck (I have a nice high Technics now).

Dave

Leestereo
07-31-2004, 11:02 AM
I'll bring some jazz (on vinyl and CD) and also some micro monitors, not British per se, but a Canadian knock-off of British designs, for a listen.

botrytis
07-31-2004, 03:26 PM
I will have a Kenwood Basic C-1 preamp and an Onkyo M-5140 amp (100 WPC) (they go well together) setup for most of the listening duties. I also have a PMA-500AV Rotel Integrated Amp that we can also use (it is 85 WPC and is very clean sounding). Sources will be a Dual 714Q TT (with Grado Black cartridge) and a Pioneer DV45A universal player and if I can find a power cord a Technics high end cassette.

My Mitsu amp is having some problems that I can't figure out - we can try it if people want to (I will use my Adcom with it). It will work for a while then a channel drops - not good.

I also have several other pieces in the basement - a Pioneer SX-737 and old Rotel receiver (10 WPC) and a few other pieces.

Speakers in the basement - Royd Doublets, Royd Envoys, Rogers LS2's, Polk Monitor 7A's, Genesis Physics 1's, Advent 3002's, and a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 7.2's. I will have a set of speaker stands, also

I will also have some other pieces in the basement, also.

We will have snacks, beer, pop, and water - as well as those who are hungrier - some cherry-smoked chicker, homemade potato salad and another side dish.

It was neato! What great hosts and great taste in music. We had lots of similar-type speakers to listen to in the general category English Two Ways. Quite illuminating.
We heard the AK Gainclone amp prototype not embarass us in a brief mono demonstration. There appears to be some potential there.
Very good snacks and drinks as well.
Well done, and thank you both!

Well, I think everyone had a great time!! We had some fun, played some tunes (no MP3's - Thor wouldn't have liked it!!), and generally shot the breeze.

Most interesting combo - Advent 3002's and JonTee's Sherwood tube amp. There eas such a nice, sweet sound from that pair.

Pictures up and coming, after I resize them.

Thankyou, Dave and Gloria, for an enjoyable evening and your generosity of hosting it. I even was sent home with a plate full of brownies! Yum!

Interesting to hear all the different small 2 ways. Leestereo's revamped Laser bookshelfs were amazingly large sounding for being so tiny. I think Reel2reel was trying to pocket them to take home:D .

Although Dave and Gloria have already been given kudos for hosting, it bear srepeating: Thanks a whole bunch!!! The smoked chicken was yummy too!

About the Lazer micromonitors, it was nice to get the opinion of fellow AK members on how the x-over tweaking worked out. They sounded better than I remembered when I had them last hooked up in my system (must have been the synergy of the associated of equipment and the room).

What speaker is this? Looks like an 80's Advent or Boston 8 inch woof, and an earlier EPI inverted dome tweeter?

Is it a sealed box?

There you have a quick tour of the AK gathering. I wish you all could have been here for it. It was MUCHO FUN!!!!

I also want to thank all that came out for it - You Gents really made the evening great!!!

We tried quite a few speakers. It is amazing that the Polk Monitor 7A's, when placed on stands really had a nice sound as did the others (Genesis 1's and the Advent 3002's).

The Laser speakers, the Sherwood Amp, and the little gain clone amp were the highlights for me.

After all the suggestions on how to position the Polk Monitor 7a's, this is what i have been listening to, as today. I think it is an improvement in sound and not a boomy in the bass.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

Oh, BTW, the Mitsubishi hasn't missed a beat - it is running well - it may have been the pre-amp. I guess I really need to take a closer look at it.
