I found a "classic" Technics SL-1200 for about 100usd and i was wondering if it was worth buying. It appears to be the original model, judging by the pictures i could find.Seems to be in excellent condition. Is it worth the money? does it take p-mount cartridges as well? Will it last?
Thanks for any help!!

If it's in good shape, I'd jump on it. Those units easily sell for that much on eBay, usually more. If you can get it without having to risk damage in shipping, go for it.
All (?) P-mount cartridges come with an adapter that will allow you to install them in a standard 1/2" mount headshell, which is what should come on the SL-1200. So, a standard head is universal - it'll take either 1/2" or P-mount. P-mount heads will only take P-mount. The only advantage I can see to the P-mount is the complete lack of adjustments. You're better off with the standard headshell, unless you really have no manual dexterity left whatsoever. Besides, I think the better cartridges are not available in P-mount.
They say you should never trust a used stylus. Often, the stylus is 90% the cost of a whole new cartridge. Some have suggested the Shure M97xE (available at Amazon for $55) as a lot of value for the dollar. I've recently ordered one myself, but have not yet received it.
