Just bought a brand new Cambridge 840a and the left channel is dead. I hooked up a player, an ipod, and a tuner and all of them would just play the right channel. I checked balance, connections, etc.....nothing. Guess ill be talking to the warranty department:thumbsdn:

Unbelievable. A new product should not pass QC if something this major is wrong. Hope it works out soon for you.

Not sure which part of the planet you reside, but here in Oz, for a DOA product warranty doesn't come into it. We'd just take it back to the store and ask them to give me a new one.
Most retailers here will open new boxes and least confirm the product does what it is intended to do before they sell it.
Hope it works out well for you mate.

That's disappointing. Hopefully mine coming this week won't be the same way, although USB on my DACMagic was DOA too. :(

I have dealt with Cambridge Audio customer service before with good results. My guess is that they will just give you a new amp. I had bought a 640a demo from my dealer in Iowa and it would drop both channels randomly for about 1 or 2 seconds. Took it to the CA dealer in Philly and they were suppose to send it to Audio Plus Services (The CA importer) to get fixed but the dealer lost my player and they gave me a brand new one. CA in my experience has been a good company and I imagine they will take care of you. Even if some gear passes the test out of the factory things can go wrong between the time it is put in a box and when the buyer takes it out of the box.

I purchased my CA audio gear from Hawkeye Audio in Cedar Falls. I imagine that you got yours at Audio Labs though. Did Lou take care of you? He is a good guy as are all the folks at Audio Labs. If you take it back and talk to Lou my guess is that he will take care of you.

Went and saw Lou, and your right he gave me the display model and ordered me a different 840. Sounds there was problems with the preamp and with the relay on the volume. Hooked up the demo to my boston a150's and a70's and was very pleased. It had a really clean, crisp sound.

Very nice. I pulled the trigger and ordered mine last week, hoping it will arrive this week for me to try out. Good to hear you're liking it thus far. :)

I am glad that Lou took care of you and got everything straight. Audio Labs has great customer service and they have been in good business in Des Moines for a long time. I think you are really going to enjoy your 840a. After I get my TT that is the next piece that I would like to have.
