I am still researching what I want to go with in a first time system. I had arrived at Jolida 202A, but I have still been cruising AudiogoN and the Dynaco ST-70 looks very appealing @ $400-600.
This restoration makes me want: http://diytube.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2673

People love these it seems. How would it compare to going the Jolida route?
What options would I have for an affordable preamp if I went this route. Two or three analog inputs and a volume control are all that would be necessary. I would consider using a Benchmark DAC1 Pre (rather then a DAC Magic and preamp), but it's way too expensive. I'm looking at $200-300.
Thanks!

I currently use a Dynaco PAS3 with my ST-70. I have also built a Steve Deckart Zen preamp that works quite well also, though that only has one input.
The nice thing about the ST-70 is that there are so many mods that can be done to it.

they sold LOTS of PAS2/3 and ST70 combos. nice sound and inexpensive back then, and today as well. listening to a set now.

I'd suggest if you are gonna go with the ST-70 and restore it that you go with the upgraded power supply from SDS and look into updating the driver board with one of the boards offered out there.

Haha. Looks great! I'd love to hear one, but I imagine that will be difficult in my area as much or more than it was to hear a Jolida.
This looks to be what I was wondering about. Goldpoint SA2: http://www.goldpt.com/sa2.html

More than I was thinking something like this would be though @ $400.

If you are looking for a very reasonable priced tube preamp with volume, bass and treble, take a look at this site t http://www.lh-electric.4t.com/sta1.html
I am in the process of building it, the printed circuit board is only $15.00 shipped!
