Hey all, this is Jim from Boise signing on. What a great audio community & wealth of resources this is!
I have a love for music, have worked on tube amps, Hammonds & Leslies for several years, and don't spend much time watching TV. My wife works in professional video & TV production, and could care less about audio. So I built my system with both worlds in mind.
Main components: Amp, Parasound HCA2205; Preamp, Parasound AVC2500u; Turntable, Thorens TD126MkIII; main speakers, Altec Lansing Model 19's; surround speakers, Altec Lansing Model 14's; center channel, M19 components & smaller Altec woofers; Sub, Definitive Technology 18".
I think the key to the system is the Model 19's. For audio, they throw a beautiful image & soundstage. When it comes to video, they have incredible dynamic range & accuracy. The amp has tons of power, and with the efficiency of the horns the system has plenty of headroom & authority while still playing clean. Okay, I have to admit that I'm liking the video thing more & more - It's a lot of fun to see, hear, & feel a movie like IceAge2!
