I see that Ian Anderson has a new gig this fall. Man would I like to see that show. I love Tull, and acoustic Tull, I have on the Best of Acoustic Tull on now. Damn would that be a good show.
I am going to have to re-think some vacation days to see this. Think I am right?

That time off is so precious, it's hard to decide the best way to spend it, but Tull is not a bad option. I saw Tull a couple of times in the 70's. I believe the second time, Cheap Trick opened for them. What was funny was the sophistication or Tull's music compared to Cheap trick. They used a lot of acoustic material in that concert, but when they decided to rock, they blew away any memory of the opening act. They showed amazing range.

I took my teenage daughter to an orchestral Tull (Ian Andersen) concert three summers ago, when they played at UCLA Royce Hall in Los Angeles. She was impressed due to the backing of a small but full orchestra, including an oboe which is her choosen instrument. It was a wonderful concert, not the Tull I remembered from the 70's but it brought back a lot of memories. The concert did seem to promote a newer violinist Lucia Micarelli (girlfriend of Ian's son or such at the time) a bit more than I cared for, since I was attending to see Ian and the boys. However it did turn very interesting when they let Micarelli feature on a rendition of Zepplin's "Cashmere", hot violin instead of hot guitar.
Tull is probably my all time favorite band, so I guess I'll have to keep watch on their website for the upcoming concert tour. At least lining in the L.A. area I'll have a good chance that the tour will stop by close to me.

The live show I liked best in the 70's was the Passion Play tour.

I caught the " Thick As A Brick " tour in New Zealand in 1972. Wish they'd taken "A Passion Play" downunder. Saw Them again on their "Warchild" tour. There is some interesting "Passion Play" footage on Utube as well.

I also saw them in 1972. Musically, one of the best concerts I've seen.

Yeah- "Passion Play" is my favorite tour memory also- it must have been this time of year in '74, Baltimore Civic Center. They had the screen of the Ballerina & the Hare, etc!. I saw them again in '76 or so- but the first was the best! Ian knows how to run a tight ship!

I always thought that Martin Barre never got his due as an excellent guitar player. His influence on Heavy Metal is obvious to me. I've seen Tull a number of times and they usually put on a good show, although Ian's voice is not what it once was.
I also loved how Tull kept rotating members of Fairport Convention in and out of the band, Martin Allcock on keyboards, mandoline or whatever was needed, Dave Mattacks on drums for a few tours and of course the great Dave Pegg on bass who was in Tull for 17 years.
