M.(att) Ward played a show at the Horchow Auditorium in the Dallas Museum of Art Sunday night, and i was lucky enough to be there. the reputation he's been building for himself is richly deserved. one of the strongest performances i've seen in quite some time, at least since Yo La Tengo in the same venue this time last year.
he was solo, on guitar and piano. the guitar playing was absolutely outstanding-- the right hand was a dynamo, as he played rhythm, lead and percussion all at the same time. he opened with a guitar workout that went well past 5 minutes, and was full of soft/loud, rhythmic elements, sweetness and bombast. the vocals were full of regret, surprise, melancholy and joy. the guy was just spellbinding, holding us all in complete suspension for close to an hour.
anybody else tuned into this dude?
