M.(att) Ward played a show at the Horchow Auditorium in the Dallas Museum of Art Sunday night, and i was lucky enough to be there. the reputation he's been building for himself is richly deserved. one of the strongest performances i've seen in quite some time, at least since Yo La Tengo in the same venue this time last year.

he was solo, on guitar and piano. the guitar playing was absolutely outstanding-- the right hand was a dynamo, as he played rhythm, lead and percussion all at the same time. he opened with a guitar workout that went well past 5 minutes, and was full of soft/loud, rhythmic elements, sweetness and bombast. the vocals were full of regret, surprise, melancholy and joy. the guy was just spellbinding, holding us all in complete suspension for close to an hour.

anybody else tuned into this dude?

Awesome. I got Transfiguration on Vincent when it came out in '03 and listened to it quite incessantly. The album he did after that (Transistor Radio) didn't really do it for me, then I lost track of him.
It doesn't surprise me he'd put on a good solo show. You're lucky to see him especially outside of the club scene.

BTW, I really like his cover of Daniel Johnston's Story of an Artist.

I've had "Post War" for quite a while and while I love most of it, I regard a couple of tracks as being pretty weak. Rollercoaster now gets the "skip" treatment. From what I've heard, I reckon a "best of" would be good. :thmbsp:

You've won me. I'll try it. Real funny...just now I'm listening to the local ABC AM talk show and just 5 minutes after I posted, they played Chinese Translation. Never played him before so what have we done? Eerie!
