My Marantz 2230 has its build dated written on it inside.
It will be 30 years old next week.

I didn't see any date inside the SX-727 I bought for my brother.
Is there a way to tell at least what year it was made?
It could be as old as he is, being born in 1972.

BTW: That SX-727 sounds sweet with my Marantz Model 920 speaks. Probably the best receiver I've used with them. So far.

Pioneer uses serial numbers that are coded so you can determine the build date. I have forgotten the code but I am qyuite sure BeatleFred would still remember. .

I can tell you the 727 was sold duringf 72-73 model years

First you get your chainsaw.

Make sure it is very sharp and well lubricated.

Make a clean cut through the widest part of the receiver.

Without removing any large pieces from the inside, count the number of capacitors and resisters intact, multiply by 3.14, divide by 1.67 and round down. That will give you the year built.

To get the month built you will have to remove the tuner dial with a set of pliers in one strong tug. Let it stay in the receiver halve, shake the halve violently until the dial falls out. By the way it falls and lays on the table will determine the month.

To get the day built you have to lite a calendar sheet showing a month with 31 days on it and stick it in the receiver halve. Wait 10 seconds and pull out what is left. The day with the most square clearly visible is the day.

To get the final inspectors name you will need a live chicken....

...sorry couldn't resist the easy joke.

usually the manufacturing date of the power cable is stated on the cable itself. i think this will give you a guide on the manufacturing date of your component. I have been using this as my guide when i go around thrift shops in my area. hope this helps.

Check the serial-number at the back of the unit. The first two letters tell you the manufacturing date.
The first letter gives you the year: T = 1973, U = 1974, V = 1975 etc.
The second letter gives you the month: A = January, B = February etc.
I checked this with several Pioneer-stuff.
