Is there a tutorial somewhere on here or anywhere else that someone knows of that shows how to refurbish the veneer on speaker cabinets? None of the woodworking I’ve ever done has included veneer so I have no idea how to treat it. Anything that I’ve found online so far was very vague and didn’t really help me much. There are quite a few scratches on these cabinets and I’d really like to get them looking like new again. Any help you guys could offer would be great.
Thank you

It depends on how they are finished now. Is there a clear coat of some sort on them, or is it just raw wood? If they are raw wood, you can try sanding a little then restaining. If they are clear coated with poly or varnish, you would need to strip that and sand then restain and reclear...
OR.. if I were you, I would first try some Howards Restore-a-Finish, then Howard's Feed-n-Wax. It has saved a lot of really nasty looking wood that I thought would have to be refinished. HIGHLY ACCLAIMED stuff!
If that doesn't work, then all you are out is a little time, but you will find you'll want to use Howards on all the wood in your house...

Start by using the search function for 'veneer' 'veneering' 'finishing' ect and start reading. there are many methods of re-finishing and probably as many strongly held opinions on what/how is 'best' as there are AK members.
I always use water based strippers before sanding whereas others go directly to sanding. Stain vs no stain, again a personal choice varying with how the wood looks to begin with. then there is the tung oil, minwax (briwax), lacquer, varnish, polyurethane (brush, spray, hand-rubbed) .... and it goes on.
But do the reading here and you will see the various methods advocated and opinions strongly held. Ultimately you will have to make some choices and see what kind of finish and methodology you prefer.
good luck....
