I have a c28 MC2105 combo that I love. I also have a chance to get a Mcintosh C31V in good condition (no remote). How does the C31V stack up against the C28 ? Thanks

I have not heard a C31V yet but when I compare McIntosh preamps, I find the newer preamp almost always sounds better.

The C28 came out in 1970 and the C31V came out in 1987. So I would expect the C31V to sound better.

I have a C-31 and it was a big improvement over my C-26. The only down side to the 31 is cosmetic. I t doesn't have a full glass face. Other than that it's quiet and the remote is handy.

Well Victor and Mike, you are both right. I did grab it and I'm glad I did. It is alot better than the C28. The phono stage is very good. I have a Jadis Defy on my main system and it needs a minor repair so I thought the 31 would be a good fill in but.....I think it will be more than that.

Besides a bit higher noise floor than the DEFY the Mac is more engaging.
