I know this topic has been discussed here before but my searches found confusing and conflicting info.
I was going to get a new cartridge for a BIC 960 that is used as a secondary table. I took a realistic R47XT off another table and decided to look into using it. I understand that it was made by Shure. Is it a worthy cart. If so what would be a decent stylus for it? i think it had a 5X. Thanks in advance.

The Realistic R47XT was the equivalent of the M95ED in the Shure line. The M95ED was just below the v15 series near the top of the Shure line, at least until the M97HE came out, and had a .2 x .7 ml stylus.
Two options at LP Gear for styli, your budget dependent:
http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=RSR5X
or
http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=RSR5XHE
Neither of these are "original Shure", but the LP Gear styli are quite good.

Thanks whell. Needle doctor carries the Shure version so I ordered a NE95ED. Should do the job.

John, as you stated there is confusion with these carts and styli. When you receive the stylus, please post back and confirm the fit. Thanks.

Will do. On Needle Doctors site they have a section for Realistic stylus replacements so hopefully this will work.

Got it today and ter fit is a little snug but installed fine. sounds pretty good but haven't put it to the test on the system that it will be used with.
I can hear vast differe between amps and speakers but cartridge and stylus sound quality is new to me. Can it really make that much difference when used with mid fi components?
