I need to remove the platter from my ELAC 50H to clean up the idler roller and do some PM work. Is there anything I should be aware of or does it just lift off? Then does it just go back on? I imagine it has to be turned one way or the other in the process.

I have a manual but it is in German. I just don't want to get into another nightmare.
I'd like to lube the bearings but I see in the German manual exploded diagram they are buried under the spindle changing mechanism.

Thanks for any help here fellas. :scratch2:
Its at home on my doorstep now...

There is a tiny clamp ring that holds the platter on. You need a small
screwdiver or scratch awl to pry the ring off.
Look closely, it is small and hard to see.

There is a "C" clamp that holds the platter on. I just fixed up a 50H for a customer. That clip is a pain in the a**!!! I take them off and throw them away. Figure when in use that platter is not going anywhere. If I move it, the platter comes off. Do yourself a favor take it off and leave it off. None of my Duals have that clamp on anymore!

Is it on the top of the platter? Your right because I didn't see it...

I found the "C" ring yes it is small and I wonder if it even would go back on. Its just a split ring not even like a "C" clamp.

When that is off can I just lift up to take the platter off? The reason I am asking I do not want to hurt the idler wheel. Do I have to turn it when I lift or is it straight up? Same with putting it back on. Does it just drop down or should I turn it?

You know what I mean?? Not trying til I know.
Thanks guys. Man this thing is cool.

I just want to be sure I do it right.

Yes you just lift the platter straight up once the ring is off.
Be sure the turntable is in the off mode.
It goes back on pretty much the same, I like to push the idler
inward just before putting the platter on. Put the platter on and turn it slightly to be sure it is clear.
