When we send our equipment (vintage in this case) to Terry Dewick, AudioClassics or another source, they seem to come back to us with different personalities. Not only have they been brought back to factory specification, but, they usually test well beyond that, bringing it closer to "modern" levels.

MC2205 (From AudioClassics inventory - B1)
249W Max
-Distortion at 200 WPC rated output
20HZ: 0.012%
2KHz: 0.005%
20KHz: 0.025%

C32 (From Terry Dewick - full upgrade)
Noise level: -101db
Dynamic range: 90.5db
THD: 0.005%

It is really comforting to know that most, if not all, vintage McIntosh can be brought back to life. Gotta love that.

Woo hoo! Some nice McVintage gear there. Gotta love those slant leg cabinets.

True, what we sometimes don't think of is the comfort that comes from having Terry or someone else actually check out our vintage gear to make sure that it's doing what it's supposed to.

Do you have copies of the owner's manuals for these two models? I am looking at the owner's manual for an MC2120 (little brother of the MC2200). This amplifier is rated at 0.1% distortion max 20Hz - 20KHz just like the MC2200/MC2205. On another page there is a Performance Chart of "typical" distortion. It starts at 0.02% at 20Hz, drops to 0.01% from 40Hz to about 4KHz, rises to 0.02% at 10KHz and reaches 0.035% at 20KHz. I would bet the MC2200 curve looks identical. Your unit follows this curve almost perfectly at little below typical.

Mcintosh is very conservative with their "rated" specifications. :thmbsp:

Yes, I do have the manuals for both units. I've read through them several times in the past and have referenced them on occasion, but, I had never REALLY looked at those charts (not so good memories from math class...scary graphs). So, after reading your post, I forced myself to look at and comprehend the charts. Wow! Sure enough, they show exactly how the unit tests well beyond the factory specifications that are listed pages before. Again, gotta love McIntosh!

Thank you for pointing that out John.
