View Full Version : Technics SL-3300, I like it, am I a bad person?
I picked this TT up a couple weeks back at a garage sale. It has an Empire 66 QE/X cart on it. I've rotated it in for about the 4th time, was just playing the Best of the Doobies on it. Can someone explain why I really like this turntable?

Maybe it's that the Technics direct drive tables are reliable and ergonomically pleasing? Perhaps you haven't yet been shamed out of enjoying a fully automatic turntable, much less one from a major consumer electronics manufacturer?
Maybe you like the way it sounds?
In any case, congratulations! I'm still infatuated with my fully automatic SL-1600 nearly two years on. The originals still go cheap on eBay. You lose the quartz lock and vertical tracking adjustment of the Mk 2 series, but it's prettier and may ultimately be more reliable.
shrinkboy 03-23-2009, 07:00 PM sl 1400, 1700, and 3350 in use here all the time. ALL the time. my favorites, by far. put a good headshell and nice cart on there, currently my favorite is Quest 20 franken-cart, and you'll be happy too
oldhifiguy 03-23-2009, 07:22 PM I have one too and I like mine. Also have the 1350 changer

It probably looks a lot like my SL-3200, except with a few extra levers for running the full-auto thing. I like mine, except the "stop" lever on the front panel is very slow to notice. Probably needs some fresh grease somewhere inside...

I don't think you're a bad person, but once you get hooked on the hobby you may make life difficult for those around you. :D

Almost identical to the SL-3200, only difference is two added controls to the right of the pitch controls. The 3300 has a "size" selector and "memo-repeat" setting. Ty_bower, your dust cover is perfect, how do you polish it?
Ty_Bower 03-23-2009, 10:13 PM Thanks. I used Meguiar's PlastX (http://meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+G12310), after reading a couple recommendations for it in the threads here. To be honest the cover was in pretty good shape before I started, but the PlastX does seem to help shine up the lighter scratches. I bet if you put enough elbow grease into it, even the heavier scratches might improve too.

You are a bad person.
Only if you use it for scratching!

Why do you like your table? Could it be.......it sounds good?????
It's hard to beat a Technics DD. Even the lower cost ones, like my SL-QD3, do a good job. They're quiet, rock stable, and produce great sound. If the ears are happy, then all is well with the world.:music:
