Who makes the best reasonably priced 12 inch home theater sub. It will have to be self powered and attractively priced. Being Canadian made would also be nice but not a necessity. I am looking to upgrade from an M&K 8 inch sub. I like sealed enclosures as well. I find they deliver a tighter bass. They may not go as low as a ported version but how many movies have any real info below 20hz anyways?

I own a Velodyne CHT-12, which is outstanding for a home theater setup. Since you're close by, you're welcome to come over and give it a listen.

I own both Velodye HSG12 and Rava (from Adire). The Velodyne is 3X more expensive and lighter. I'd go for a Rava sub for HT as it costs only $400. You'll be amazed how good it is.

Want cheap??

The KLH is only about $150. It's 12" powered sub. Not sure of wattage, I think 100 wpc.

My neighbor got one for his HT, works pretty good, especially for the price.

You know, likely there are many subs out there that will go boom.
Now if you are trying to intagrate it into your music too then there is the rub. It can be a trick and room placement is critical. For strickly home theater I think many subs will work good. For dual purpose H/T and music your choice narrows down. I used to have a JBL PB12 and it failed miserably. Check around in forums but I think you will find that the SVS line is very popular. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/
I have the PCi 25 31 and love it. (Also looks tough as hell) A sub that is very hard to beat due to its tunable ports is the VTF-3 http://store.yahoo.com/hsusubs/index.html A buddy of mine down the street has one and it is very impressive. Hopefully you have an SPL meter and maybe a Avia disk or something to really set it up right. Good luck! :)

I haven't read any thing about that Adires already built but they seem to very very popular with the DIY people. That is a good recomendation about the quality of the drivers.
I am very interested in the new Eminence GenerationII 12". Looks like the deal for building a Sunfire type isobaric if you can find the proper amp. Even without that it is definatly going to push air.
I hope you do some research on this one as it lookes like a winner. Listening is of course the test, but it has been out for around 2 months now so some must have been used by the DIYs by now.

More and more, actually.

The Adire Rava is a sealed 12" Shiva driver that is very well liked for small HT duty/music. They also sell a little larger ported version called Dharman.
