If the picture is of the one you're picking up, sweet!

I hope one day to find a 1219 on Craigslist to replace my 1218 in my Ham Radio/Computer room system...or maybe even take it to the "big" system to listen to 78's....

Use MEK (birth defects be damned) to soak the post of that dust bug so that it removes cleanly. Will not attack the chassis paint.

Alright I got a minute to fill you guys in. I went and picked it up, came home, gave her a once over, did a lil cleaning on it. It still had the plastic on the platter. lol It does need to be regreased, cleaned up. I did get a couple of extra goodies for twenty bones. The last time it was serviced was in 82, at a local shop. I felt bad for the guy, didnt want to take it from him, but i had to, I have to enjoy it. That lil red thing is a suction cup, with a spindle on it, then a arm with a felt pad and a brush, it clease the record as its spinning.

Heres a brief summary of what i got and his explination of it:

I am the original owner of this item and it has always been housed in a custom made stereo cabinet. This unit looks and, more importantly, sounds as good as new.
Three-speed (with pitch-control), it has a 12”, 7lb, direct-drive, dynamically balanced platter and an anti-skate tone arm that can be set to track at 1/4 gram.
This turntable includes the original Dual walnut base and matching Dual dust cover, plus all wires and the owner’s manual.
Also includes a Audio Technica AT-212-X Cartridge and a Shure HiTrack M93ED Cartridge as well as a 45 rpm spindle adapter.
Also included is an attached stylus cleaning brush and an attached record sweeper which cleans the surface as the record plays.
For an additional $20.00, you can purchase a Shure SFG-2 Stylus Force Gauge and a Parastat MKIIA Record Cleaner.
It DOES NOT include the multi-play (stacking) spindle, which I never owned and is only used by people who want to drop their records on top of one another, risking all kinds of damage!

I have been listening to it for couple hours, prolly be the last tt i buy. Just need some insight on taking care of it, and lubricating her properly. And now some pics!

I have 3 of them on C.L for 150 for all.
Still no calls.

Man I wish I could find a nice one like that. You will play the daylights out of it. Very hard to find that nice and affordable. I wish I could...

II do not like trusting the auctions anymore.

Wow, that is a fine machine. I'm sure the seller was glad to see it go to a good home where it'll be loved and appreciated!

Took a look to see a 1219 since that's what I had at one time. MEK? I was wondering about that myself. Unless it's baked enamel, I would NOT get MEK anywere near a painted surface. About the same as acetone, just evaporates slower. Naphtha is a much safer solvent on plastics and painted suefaces.

I just cleaned the old grease from all that cracks, tracks, and moveable parts, replaced with 10w 30. All oiled up, singing great. I can beleive how good a shape it's in. Also the guy says he has never used the muilti lever, i just kind of greased it up, tugged on it a little, but dont want to break it. So i will leave it alone. He was glad to see it go to a good home. Prolly be the last tt i buy... its really sounds great guy, and i got three diff carts to try:

1) Audio Technica AT-212-X (this is the one on there now sounds fine, great image, and seperation)

2) Pickering V-15/ATE-2

3) Shure High Track M93E

I have come to think that these are the tables that set the standard to which most tables are measured.
I listened on my uncles 1219 in the 70's and Ive been using one for 4 years now myself.
There are better tables of course but I cant imagine how or why.
I can recommend an Ortophone Red cart and a Shure M97xe. Also the Shure V15 t2 it came with is no slouch but can be easily improved on.

:thmbsp: to you

Excellent find! :thmbsp:

I recently picked up a Dual 1219 myself, and it has become my main turntable. A beautiful performer, and sounds excellent equipped with a Shure V15. Be careful with that single/multi angle adjustment; if the lubrication has dried out, moving that lever may cause the plastic ring on the bottom of the tonearm to break off, which will cause lots of skipping. 'Course, if you don't do any stacking, you probably won't have to worry about that, but it's always a good idea to be prudent when it comes to potentially-brittle plastic. Anyway, have fun! :music:

This is what I meant. On the left rear of the table is a red post. On the front, by the start stop lever is a stylus cleaning brush/post. Neither came with the unit from the factory - they are aftermarket gizmos held on with two face tape. Over time, that can be tricky to remove without damaging the chassis. MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) is a powerful solvent that will dissolve the tape, without damaging either the paint or the faceplate. Use it liberally.

They say prolonged exposure can cause birth defects - not worried about that. You want to worry if you start drinking the stuff, however. Poison.

Wash hands after using. Latex gloves are useless - it eats them up.

Strong stuff.

I was wondering if i should swap out carts, and what one you guys would use.
The choices are:

1) Audio Technica AT-212-X (this is the one on there now sounds fine, great image, and seperation)

2) Pickering V-15/ATE-2

3) Shure High Track M93E

I really dont know how to swap the carts, but you can only learn one way. I just want to find the best of the three i got, and give it a go.. I got the manual for the table and these clear plastic square things, various screws and spacers Any help is apreciated. Its still running great.

I started a thread last month questioning the correct use of the clear plastic alignment gauge that Dual supplied with the 1219. It may be of some help.

Also, you can still buy hardshells for the 1219. Another option is to pick up two more hardshells and then you can use all three cartridges!

I just moved out one of my 1219's to a new home, I will have to put together another one for here. I replaced it with the Sony PS-5550 for a time just for a change of pace. The 1219 was my 2nd TT growing up. This one had a Grado Black on it.(Sold)

Thanks,

Congratulations! :thmbsp:

You've got a beauty there. I have two 1219s, but they both needed more TLC after I got them, including in one case opening up the motor and cleaning/re-lubricating the bearings to get the motor to spin at all again, much less at the right speed! LOL

It's a fine TT, alright. I'm planning to upgrade mine with a massive laminated birch ply or maybe slate slab plinth, like the ones people make for the old idler-wheel Garrards, Thorens and Lencos. I think it should improve the Dual's sound just as much as it does theirs, but won't know until I try it! I have a Lenco (and other projects) ahead of it in the pipeline, though, so I have no idea when I'll get to it. Maybe in a year or two... I need to do something like that sooner or later, anyway, because the plinths that came with mine, unlike yours, have definitely seen better days! :D
