I have one of my power meters not working. It seems it worked when I first got it, but now the right one does not work. It is stuck at the .05 watt mark. Do these meters have a history for going bad? If so are there replacements available?? If it is not the meter, what else could it be? On headphones, both sides are working fine. Is there an easy way to swap meters to see if it is the power meter or the signal to it? thanks

There is usally a meter circuit involved with meters. Some resistors and diodes.

Here's a trick I learned when searching for old gauges for a 67 Charger.

Remove the leads to the meter and strap two D-cell batterys together. This will give you about 5v dc to put on the meter. Most meter movements will defect to about mid scale with 5 volts.

If the meter defects then you have a problem in the metering circuit.

Good Luck,

Boy I dunno.

If those meters are designed to read in milliamps, even one 'D' cell will peg it and smoke it for sure...a 'D' cell is capable of some serious short-term current.

The automotve gauges have internal limiting circuitry, a watt-meter for an amplifier does not.

Get some small spring loaded jumper leads from Rat-Shack and jump the suspect meter from the one working. That ought to get you started.
