Howdy all,

I was wondering how far I need to keep my R2R tapes from my speakers. I heard that keeping they to close can cause problems. Fact or fiction?

Magnets will definitly damage your tapes. There may or may not be a very strong field around your speakers. To be safe I'd keep your tapes well away from the speakers. I've had speakers with no sheilding that you could put near a TV with out problems because the magnets are small and the cabinets were large. That's the exception though.

on a similar note, i've got about 15 r2r tapes on a shelf about 6" underneath 2 cassette decks. ie, the tops of the tapes are ~6" from decks.
are they too close to the magnets in the motors?

Set this up this morning. Bad idea?

The tweets at the top of the speaker are ES and the woofer is about 2+ feet from the tape.

I would think a good test would be to get a magnetic compass and see were it deflects as you get close to the speakers. I use a gauss meter but they are hard to find.

Tapes near motors?

I don't know about yours, but on my deck, the tape reels pretty much mount directly to the motors. So, I really don't think that matters much.
