Picked up "Quiet Nights" on 180 gm last night. It's really sweet!
First "New LP" I have bought in a store in probably 17 years. It was a great time for me as I am breaking out the old minty vinyl I have and looking at the new. I really liked this one and really do not know alot about her...
I wan to learn how and where to buy the new vinyl so I am head first right now learning.

Lucky you, good score, she is a great artist. She is a great artist that has worked very hard to get where she is.
I just caught Diana Krall interviewed 20 minutes ago on CBC.Have to admit she has way more "Sparkle" than listening to Billy Bob Thorton's super weird belligerent, rude head space????? on CBC with Jian Ghomeshi.Wow,Billy Bob is quite a piece of work in a very bad way!
Diana Krall on the other hand is one of our best kept secrets, giving us great Music, excellent Live concerts, managing to make outstanding records,cd's & dvd's and still balancing/enjoying a happy marriage with Elvis Costello and her two children. In her interview she called it Late Night Music.Catch her interview on CBC.Try renting her dvd concerts Live In Paris & Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival from your local Movie store.Excellent!! 5 stars!.

Just finished listening to my brand new copy of "Quiet Nights"...
Side A is OK until the last song which gives an idea of what to expect on side B, lots of noise and even a hint of distorsion in the voice and on the piano notes...
Too bad, really, since we all agree that she's a great performer, as are her fellow musicians, and the songs are top notch... Can't say that about Verve's pressing quality though.
I wrote them an eMail on the subject two weeks ago...still waiting for a reply (that won't probably ever come).

Thought I would follow-up..
I bought DK's Greatest Hits on Verve vinyl at HMV last wednesday. Unfortunately, it shows the same problems as Quiet Nights. Noisy vinyl at times, especially in the lead-in groove (first few seconds of each side), and sometimes just brief bursts of noise, really strange. But, otherwise, the sound is excellent.
OTOH, I also bought John Coltrane (Blue Train) and Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers (Moanin') on Blue Note at HMV as well. They're both sounding fantastic, and they each came with the CD. Highly recommended.

I'm a huge Diana Krall fan and have all of her CDs with the exception of the Christmas ones. Unfortunately Quiet Nights is my least favorite. Lucky for you because the rest of her work is exceptional. But then again we might just have different musical tastes.
In any case glad you are enjoying your record!
