I've got a pair of Realistic three-way crossovers that I bought a hundred years ago (NIB). Cat # 40-1339A. These are external X-overs in thier own box w/l-pads for mids and tweets. Are they worth messing with?
I'm confident with my woodworking abilities, can someone suggest a speaker building book or site for matching drivers?

Well, they'd be good to use to get some experience. They probably xover at what, 2K and 8K or so?
A smaller 8-inch, or so, system would seem to be indicated.

Cook Book is a good idea. Grab one of the shareware programs to design the boxes. I use WINISD and it is very good. Crossing at 1k and 6k is like the clasic 3 way. Figure a 10 woofer an 4/5 midrange and a tweeter. Crossovers are a tricky thing depending on driver impeadance and sensitivity they may or may not work. Give it a shot:D You will have fun no matter what and you will learn a lot too.

Steamer,

Sounds like you are going to have some fun playing Mad Scientist!

Have you gone over to partsexpress.com and checked out their speaker driver wizard? It's not too specific but a lot of fun.....

Last word, be sure to check out their tutorial page too and don't forget to buy drivers that pull significantly higher than your crossover points........Jay:uzi:

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info and the links. I spent a few hours with the cookbook the other day. This is definately not something you figure out in a weekend! I'm still digesting it, this is a hard read for me.
I did play with the calculator at parts express.
Jay, so far I'm just a Frustrated Scientist- I'm sure Mad will come soon. :dammit:
Is it required to have a pencil pouch for this sort of thing?:nerd:
