View Full Version : What album do you have more than one copy of?
daza152 04-12-2009, 01:07 AM Hi I was just considering getting another copy of DSOTM I have 2 already one is a UK pressing the other I think is a New Zealand copy, and these look a little different and sound very similar, which is the problem I don't love the background noise in the grooves especially on the quiet moments. I thought about getting the new still sealed 30th anniversary issue which comes highly reccomended from you guys.
So Which album do you have the most copies of and how many?....and why?
I look forward to your responses, Thanks Daza:music:
highping 04-12-2009, 01:10 AM Umm, I have an extensive record collection.....however, I just have the normal run of the mill copy of Dard Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
bryblob 04-12-2009, 01:15 AM well I have pink floyd the wall on cd and vinyl, I think that's their best stuff
clydeselsor 04-12-2009, 01:20 AM Records at the thrift stores around here are 25 cents each, so I will usually buy anything that I find that I like, whether I already have it or not. I have a second system setup downstairs, so I put my duplicates with that system.
Arkay 04-12-2009, 01:29 AM I buy a lot of my albums in "bulk buys", where there might be from 20 to 200+ LPs in the lot. By doing this, I keep my "bird-doggers" calling me when they get a bunch of 'Western' records (not local Chinese stuff, which I'm not all that interested in).
As a result, I end up with a fair number of duplicates, whether I want them or not. Periodically I will test-compare some and weed out the lesser copies, but I rarely catch up. Right now I probably have around 25 unwanted duplicates, and about the same number of deliberate duplicates.
With certain good or favorite records, I'll keep different pressings, or one or two "spares" in case of a record being damaged or worn-out. Examples of this would be Kooper/Bloomfield's "Super Session" or "The Best of the Guess Who". I like them, so I keep two copies.
I think the record (pun intended) for multiple copies for me is Pink Floyd's "The Wall". I got another one the other day, so if I remember right, that makes eight, in six different pressings. I didn't set out deliberately to do that, though: half of them came in one single purchase, from someone who obviously liked the LP and deliberately collected different pressings. I like it just enough to keep them all, especially since it can be fun to compare the various pressings.
I have other projects to deal with in the coming weeks, but sometime soon I'll do another "purge" and get rid of a box or two of duplicates and unwanted LPs. I have to do that regularly because of space limitations, and I've added more than I've cleaned out in the past couple of months.
Tarl Of Gor 04-12-2009, 01:34 AM Arkay,
I know what you mean about picking up duplicates from buying collections - I must have 15 copies of Carol King's Tapestry now. I swear, EVERYONE, must have bought that record!
OneMalt 04-12-2009, 08:29 AM This thread is kind of coincidental because just a few days ago I bought a replacement for my trusty old Blind Faith album - the one with a picture of the band on the front cover. The new one has the naked teenage girl with the toy airplane cover. I decided to keep the old one just so I'd have both covers.
pmsummer 04-12-2009, 09:34 AM After Bathing At Baxter's -- Jefferson Airplane
Ten copies (counting LPs, CDs, RtR Tapes, and Cassettes).
grillebilly 04-12-2009, 10:37 AM Lamont Cranston Band Self titled (4) and LC Notes (2)
Moby Grape Live Grape (3)
Love Tractor This Aint No Outerspace Ship (2)
Roy Buchanan That's What I Am Here For (2)
Chameleons Strange Times (2)
Nighthawks Rock And Roll (2)
XTC Sylarking (2) and Oranges and Lemons (2)
Pandoras Stop Pretending (2)
that's all I can think of now
ekmanning5 04-12-2009, 10:43 AM As a result, I end up with a fair number of duplicates, whether I want them or not. I'm pretty much the same way. Especially the "never catching up" part. :D
I must have at least ten Sgt. Pepper albums by the Beatles. I have multiple pressings/copies of most of their catalogue. I just can't resist buying Beatle albums.
tcdriver 04-12-2009, 11:00 AM Three copies of Misa Criolla, Philips PPC 619, two-channel stereo. This is beautiful music, well performed and the recording is stunning. Unfortunately, the American Philips pressing of this era were awful. Finding a good quiet copy is an ongoing project.
Two copies of Simon and Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Columbia CQ 30995, SQ quadraphonic. The first copy I picked up in a thrift store and was in poor condition. The second copy I purchased at my favorite local records shop for real money.
Three copies of Beverly Sills - Anre Kostelanetz, Music of Victor Herbert, Angel SFO-37160, SQ quadraphonic. These show up all the time. Probably the most common quadraphonic record I have seen.
Three copies of Handel, Royal Fireworks Music, Vanguard VSQ 30020, SQ quadraphonic. A fine quadraphonic recording. I finally found one in decent condition.
snowdownunder 09-11-2009, 04:35 AM Pink Floyd "The Divison Bell" x 14
Pink Floyd "The dark side of the moon" x 7
Pink Floyd "Wish you were Here" x 6
Pink Floyd "Metal" x 4
Pink Floyd "The Wall" x 3
Pink Floyd "Animals" x 2
I do like my Floyd.
This is a vinyl list only,
caddisgeek 09-11-2009, 05:10 AM for some reason I have 3 copies of "Thick as a Brick"
ehoove 09-11-2009, 06:57 AM 2 copies of Winelight - Grover Washington Jr. I gave away the rest of my dupes to the young guy down the street.
Regards,
Jim
gearhound 09-11-2009, 09:23 AM Steely Dan's............Aja;...........vinyl in three different colors..................................

vinyl1 09-11-2009, 09:38 AM In my classical section, I tend to have different pressings of the same LP. Typically, an RCA shaded dog, an RCA plum Victrola, and then a London STS. But sometimes I have the Chesky or the Classic reissue as well.
Chicago II.
Every Beatles album.
Eagles Greatest Hits.
electronjohn 09-11-2009, 01:22 PM You know the Linda Ronstadt album w/Nelson Riddle? The one with Linda sprawled across the cover in the gauzy dress? Probably have 8 or 9 now...for some reason I can't stop buying them:).
hpuffen 09-22-2009, 09:48 PM Led Zeppelin II 6 copies. 3X of the RL master
Dark Side of the Moon 2X
CSN&Y Deja Vu 2X
Simon and Garfunkel Bridge over TW... 2X.. got one a couple of years ago still shrink wrapped from a neighbor of my mothers-FREE "getting of that old stuff"... the sound was amazing
West Side Story - Broadway Soundtrack Recording. I have 3 mono copies (two first pressings, one second pressing), one stereo Philips stereo import (UK?), one first pressing US stereo, one second pressing US stereo, and one 7 1/2 ips reel to reel. I also have the movie soundtrack on reel to reel.
This is one of my favorite musical works of all time. It just blows me away. I kept buying it looking for a perfect copy. I now have two excellent discs and the tape. I'll probably keep buying it whenever I come across a great copy. It's a paradox... it was very popular so there are a lot of them out there, but since it was such good music the records tended to get played (and abused) much more than other soundtracks.
I've got 3 copies of Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life. No real reason, it's not a favorite.
I've got 2 copies of the following:
Emmylou Harris -Pieces of the Sky
Emmylou Harris -Luxury Liner
Emmylou Harris -Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town
Issac Hayes - Shaft
Crosby Still and Nash - S/T
Moody Blues - Every Good Boy Deserves Favour
Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request
Woodstock
Kenny Rankin - Inside
I think that's most of them.
choochin3 09-22-2009, 10:15 PM Snowdownunder,do you have a clear vinyl copy of Wish you were here?
I found one about 20 years ago,and have regretted not buying it ever since.
Oh,and I have 3 copies of DSOTM.
The first one was really tore up,the second a lil' better, and the third is like new.
It only took me 15 years to find a good one.
Carl t.
markshan 09-22-2009, 10:24 PM I have multiple copies of several Roger Miller albums (his original albums have never come out on CD). What began as a quest for the best possible copies has turned into a sickness!
70salesguy 09-22-2009, 10:25 PM Eagles - One of these nights.
I literally wore this album out! Bought a second copy new as well.
Soundtrack to the movie Barbarella.
This album has some really cool stuff on it. Yes, I know, if you've ever seen the uncut version of the movie, you probably weren't paying very much attention to the soundtrack. I somewhat wore this album from overplay and found another copy in the 99 cent rack. I used several cuts from this album as "bumpers" when I worked at the radio station.
Anyone else have this album?
deaner33 09-22-2009, 10:33 PM Terra Firma - Harm's Way: vinyl picture disc, regular CD, promo CD
Captain Beyond - S/T: vinyl with lenticular "hologram" cover, vinyl with standard cover, CD
marqueemoon 09-22-2009, 10:40 PM Vince Guaraldi "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" - regular and Mobile Fidelity vesions. I got one for free and paid like $1 for the other. Kind of interesting to compare I guess.
joel27 09-22-2009, 11:02 PM I have to go with Pink Floyd. I have 6 copies of DSOTM on vinyl and 3 on CD
analogguyinadig 09-22-2009, 11:04 PM DSOTM here. I've owned them all. GET the 30th anniversary edition. Period.
crazyjeeper 09-22-2009, 11:54 PM Boston - Boston, The First copy I got was my mothers and skipped about 30 seconds into "More than a Feeling". I grabbed a second copy at half price books for 6 bucks and it plays back perfectly.
The Allman Brothers Band - Eat a Peach, Bought first copy at Half Price Books, didn't inspect before hand, there is a HUGE canyon across the first 2 songs which doesn't affect playback, but ticks really really loudly. I got a second copy from Half Price which is nearly mint. It even still had the poster in it.
Chicago's Greatest Hits, First copy was my mother's and as a result 80% of "25 or 6 to 4" sounds like crap. Got a second copy in much better shape at Half Price.
BroonsBane 09-23-2009, 12:04 AM DSOTM here. I've owned them all. GET the 30th anniversary edition. Period.
Same here. I have 8 vinyl copies, 3 cd's including the hybrid SACD/CD (the SACD layer is spectacular BTW) and one copy on cassette. Just have to hunt down the 8-track version and I'm set :D
Sam Cogley 09-23-2009, 12:17 AM I currently have five vinyl copies of DSOTM (a number that will start shrinking soon) and one on CD. Still looking for the 8-track.
Seven or eight LP copies of "Whipped Cream," in a mix of mono and stereo. I've been on the quest for the perfect cover in both condition and print quality.
Two MoFi Abbey Roads and one battered Apple pressing with a decent cover (it's framed).
Three of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gold and Platinum" on vinyl, none of which are the same (one embossed cover and early label, one embossed cover and a rainbow label, one non-embossed cover with the rainbow label) and one on CD.
Two of "The Beatles," both Capitol stereo pressings, plus an 8-track set which sounds great and the mono CD.
Two of "The Wall," one US and one German, plus one CD.
Two "It's a Beautiful Day" - the 1st pressing is a bit beat up, so it's framed. The reissue sounds great and gets spun now and then. Probably my most unusual duplicate.
I have a huge stack of LP pairs that need to be sorted and culled. I'll hopefully get to it sometime soon.
markshan 09-23-2009, 08:06 AM Two "It's a Beautiful Day" - the 1st pressing is a bit beat up, so it's framed. The reissue sounds great and gets spun now and then. Probably my most unusual duplicate.
Do you mean the San Francisco Sound reissue? I think it sounds horrible.
Drybasement 09-23-2009, 08:37 AM At one point in time I was heavy into Jethro Tull and set out to collect everything I could from the band. There are two albums that I have the most copies of on vinyl and that would be Aqualung and Thick As A Brick.
Aqualung:
DCC
MFSL
25th Anniversary reissue
Classic Records 200gm
1st pressing Reprise
Chrysalis reissue
TAAB:
MFSL
EMI 100 reissue
1st pressing Reprise (with fold out newspaper)
Chrysalis reissue
This is just going from memory as I may have other copies.
Grainger49 09-23-2009, 09:25 AM Dozens!
It is an illness!
Sam Cogley 09-23-2009, 10:58 AM Do you mean the San Francisco Sound reissue? I think it sounds horrible.
Yep. I don't think it sounds bad, but I don't have a good Columbia to use for comparison. Mine is pretty beat up.
A few more I remembered...
James Taylor - Sweet Baby James. One original pressing, one later (with something like "Includes Fire and Rain" printed on the jacket).
Allman Bros. - Brothers and Sisters and Eat a Peach (2 copies each)
Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe (I like this record and would like to find a better copy)
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow. Two beat stereo, one beat mono. Time for Sundazed.
Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers. One original gatefold, one later non-gatefold.
I have to make some time to listen to all these duplicates and decide which are keepers, how to dispose of the others, and which I'd like to find still better copies of.
One can easily make a career out of managing their vinyl. :tears:
SpeakerLabFan 09-23-2009, 12:14 PM I have to make some time to listen to all these duplicates and decide which are keepers, how to dispose of the others, and which I'd like to find still better copies of.

I have been doing this with my unsorteds since June. It seems like its going to take years to complete at the rate I'm going. ...stacks of records coming and going from the shelves, and piled up everywhere, and determining winners from multiple copies is time consuming.
spartanmanor 09-23-2009, 12:16 PM Probably the "White Album" 4 copies. Never planned this but they just keep showing up.
rito25 09-23-2009, 12:57 PM Probably the "White Album" 4 copies. Never planned this but they just keep showing up.
Seriously? I'm really jealous.
I have 2 copies of Led zeppelin 4.
1.5 copies of ummagumma.
qdrone 09-23-2009, 03:02 PM and also it's a great album,I have at least 4 copies of the English Import gatefold of Gentle Giant's OCTOPUS on Vertigo 2 of Acquiring the Taste(Engish Import) and 2 Three Friends(English Import) by the same band.
I loved this band when they were around and i hear they are re forming at taking the act on the road.:thmbsp:
markshan 09-23-2009, 10:38 PM Yep. I don't think it sounds bad, but I don't have a good Columbia to use for comparison. Mine is pretty beat up.
I have a Columbia UK pressing that sounds like heaven.
anytune 09-24-2009, 01:03 PM A better question would be: What one LP do you own the most copies of?
onepixel 09-24-2009, 01:18 PM I try not to have duplicates. Unless they're rare and something I really like. I ended up with a few duplicates when I didn't remember if I already have a copy in either vinyl or CD. Also if I really like the vinyl, I'll get the CD.
This wonderful album I purposely bought back ups.
Tom Jans - Eyes of an Only Child
2 - Original records
1 - Limited Japanese re-release "mini LP format" CD.
AndreiR 10-26-2009, 02:48 AM Dire Straits "Brothers in arms" -- three copies.
HandyHamlet 10-26-2009, 04:28 AM Soundtrack to the movie Barbarella.

Bob Crew Generation.
:smoke:
Grew up with this LP on 8-track. My father had a bunch of movie soundtracks. This is one of my all time favs. Did a shoot for a friend today and a couple tracks popped up in shuffle mode. He stopped and asked what we were listening to... He liked it.
Finally released on CD a few years ago. I'm going to pull the trigger and get a couple of vinyl LPs this week.
"Gotta love, love, love, love an angel..."
:music:
I've bought multiple copies of Brothers in Arms over the years. That LP always seems to get trashed somehow. Fresh Aire III. White LP, AC/DC, Breakfast in America, Simon & Garfunkel, Steely Dan, Tubular Bells, The Doors. I have like 5 copies of Styx Pieces of Eight for some reason.
Every bulk buy I make has a copy of Huey Lewis, Honeysuckle Rose Soundtrack (WTF???), Usually Bridge over T Waters, Boston, Van Halen... John Denver.
soundboy 10-26-2009, 01:44 PM 3 different copies of Spandau Ballet's "True"
SACD
Japan Sanyo CD pressing
US CD pressing
I intend to get, eventually, the Japan "Black Triangle" CD version and the remastered CD version....which would make 5 copies of this album.
And Spandau Ballet's follow-up album to "True", "Parade", is superior in every way....and yet I only own 1 copy of it on CD. :scratch2:
sailbum_2000 11-10-2009, 04:12 PM I have four copies of the Beatles "White Album.
1) Pressed in white vinyl
1) Early edition with serial number
2) versions on CD
Andyman 11-10-2009, 04:19 PM I have several, many due to looking for the better copy and not selling lesser off.
I do have by intention 4-6 copies if Brubeck's "Time Out" including mono and stereo 6 eyes and both covers.
Shackman55 11-10-2009, 10:38 PM Why is a long story, it has to do with an adopted Grandma and grandpa but I have 5 copies of Babs Streisand's Superman (she looks hot in that outfit)
The rest I am to blame for
7 copies of Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream.. Mmmmmm
3 Quadrophenia - The Who
3 Live At Carnegie - Renaissance
3 Turn of The Cards - Renaissance
and too many other multi's to count.
It is as if all memory is turned off when I see a pile of pretty pretty vinyl It is sooo shiney, "Do I have it? Uh uh oh heck I don't think so, but I'll sort that out when I get home. "
Klownschool 11-11-2009, 01:46 AM I have been doing this with my unsorteds since June. But very entertaining :).
Way too many to list!

Daza.
Wolverine 11-15-2009, 07:16 AM I have managed to pick up 3 copies of Jackson Browne's "For Everyman" each time improving on the quality of the jacket which is a little different than your average LP and prone to more wear and tear issues.
chicks 11-15-2009, 01:05 PM Seven or eight LP copies of "Whipped Cream," in a mix of mono and stereo. I've been on the quest for the perfect cover in both condition and print quality.
Yep, I probably have three or four of those in the different versions. One cover in near-mint condition, is destined for the listening room wall, assuming WAF can be overcome. If not, it's going on the wall in the mancave (garage).
