I found this at a thrift store and plugged it in. Nothing happened. It has the counter weight for the tone arm. Seems complete. but it doesn't seem to power up. Is this worth trying to fix? i'm also very new so this would be my first attempt at trying to fix a turntable. Not sure if it's worth the headache and i can't seem to find any information on these anywhere.

Have you checked to see if the fuse is blown.

Yours is a 115D

That happened to me once; then I realized I had the machine plugged into a switched outlet on my amp or receiver, and had not turned that unit on.

Do you hear anything happening when you put your ear to it? Maybe the motor is turning but something is slipping or disengaged in the drive system.

Could the cord be bad, or could a dirty switch be at fault?

pull off the platter and check the belt. I'm assuming this is a PL-115D.

What would the belt have to do with it not powering on?

I would say if the table does not have a strobe light, which I don't believe the 115D has, then this would be to see if first there is a belt to turn the platter and to see if the motor itself is spinning or trying to spin. Thats what I would be looking for anyway :)

The platter won't spin if the tonearm isn't moved away from the rest and the platter won't move, even if the motor is turning, unless a good belt is installed.

i moved the tonearm and nothing happened. I didn't hear any noises when it was plugged in, but i didn't get real close either. I didn't remove the platter, removed the mat and didn't see anything odd, but then again i don't really know what i'm looking for. i'm thinking about going back to the thrift store to see if it's still there and maybe seeing if i might take it apart a little further.

For $10 I say go buy it. Then go to thevinylengine and download the owners manual. You will need free membership to download. It has some good diagrams and should get you started at debugging because you will know correct operation and see how to open it up to observe it in action. Use it as a cheap learning experience that will probably net you a nice turntable. I am sure specific help will be forthcoming from AK as you go.

Ok, So i bought the TT. I found out that the motor is turning, needs a new belt, a headshell and cartridge. Also the plastic latch on the arm rest broke off (arm rest is still there) That might be hard to fix. Any recommendations on a headshell or cartridge would be much appreciated. I found a lot of info on diyaudio.com but i'm new to all this and a lot of it seemed to be over my head right now. I just want to get the TT up and running and sounding decent.

When I had to replace the belt on my Philips 212, I got one from this place.

You could probably get one from a store close to where you live.
The head shell too, the generic ones are usually under 20.00.

Hope this helps, at least till the experts get here. :D
