Just bought a Yamaha HTR 5650 but the guy couldnt find the remote.:tears:

anyways I am thinking of buying a decent Universal Remote.
Any suggestions? Will these remotes do everything the Stock remote does?

Harmony makes an excellent remote. Programs everything, including macros, on your computer. No it wont run everything, but all the major functions will work.

RHauge:

You can also buy a brand new, Yamaha direct replacement here (http://www.yamaha.newremotecontrol.com/catalog_item.php?catnum=WA164101).

Thanks,I might have to go that route to be able to use all of the functions of the Surround Sound Effects on the Yamaha.

I really like the one I picked up at Costco. If you're looking to use all of the sound effects you'll need the original. Some of them will work on the Harmony, but they wont be correct. I don't realy care for most of the surround effects anyway. I usually stick with the Dolby and DTS formats. The 9 channel stereo mode can be nice and certainly the Direct Stereo mode.

Harmony is nice if you have a family that also needs to use it. The "activity-based" approach they use is more neophyte-friendly.

But I personally like the products from Universal Remote.

The one I had before I got the Harmony was just like the RF20 and was probably an earlier model. Still have it somewhere. Very nice remote, but as you said I spent as much time teaching and working the remote for others as I did anything else.

You're right, the activity buttons are really mickey mouse looking, but I figured I'd give up some functionallity to keep from being torchered. To my supprise the Harmony is every bit as powerful if not more than the RF20. I also love not having to look up device codes and setting up a macro is much less of a pain. The only thing I don't like is having to scroll through all the commands when I want to control a device individually.

Its the best universal I've owned. Even better than the pronto I had, which I loved. I still hate those dumb symbols on the macro buttons though.

Universal's remotes that are Harmony-competitors (like the Digital R50) are programmed from a PC, just like a Harmony. No more punching in of codes.

my buddy distributes the harmony line, and all other logitech HT stuff in Quebec.

he tossed me a demo model with a color screen, and I think its a great unit.

I get all the functionality I need out of it, and then some.
the best part about them is they're so easy to setup.
also their database of gear they work with is MASSIVE, over 200k units.

The Harmony One has touch screen, motion sensing backlighting, recharagable batteries, cradel, a fair price, and most importantly very high WAF in my house.
