The sx 727 I just picked up is the first one I have had with those weird speaker connections on the back - the ones that look like an AC outlet with one pole rotated to horizontal. What is the deal, and how do you connect speakers?

It's some sort of polarized PITA.

You'll need to score some plugs, which sometimes cost as much as the receivers currently go for ($15-25/set).
You can live dangerously and just stuff some wire in for a connection, but I wouldn't do it for long.

They use a special connector for those retarded Pioneer binding posts. Ask Grumpy he may have some.

I have used these in the sockets before on one and they worked fine. Certainly not original but so what.

What a bunch of crap. Who was the engineer on this epiphany? Which pole is positive?

I have a pair, DSK. If you come to the meetup you can have 'em.
Oh, they have + and - on the part that plugs into the receiver.

I just fold speaker wire tips and solder them to have roughly same thickness as the slots. I only paid $5 for a beautiful 727 so I don't want to pay $15 + for a pitiful pair of adapters.

Geez, I've got a bunch on the back of the 626 I'm about to chuck. Maybe I'll flog 'em on on the 'bay for a pretty penny - after, of course, offering them here for free to the good members of AK :D

Cheers

Elbowgeek,

If you want to trade them for some little heat sinks, small 5V or 12V DC fans let me know.

Sounds like a deal - but I'm in Bermuda, if that's a problem for ya.

BTW, I'll put a general announcement in one of these forums about the parting out my 626, minus the speaker connectors of course :p: However, if there's any other parts you think might be useful to you, let me know. It's a complete unit in pretty decent cosmetic shape, all knobs, switches, etc. present and accounted for.

Let me know.

Cheers

Economy letter post is $4.95 for < 1 lb from US to Bahamas so I think it is ok. Watch your PM.

I just got an sx626 at a garage sale. I'll buy the connectors for $1 each.
