Noob here ... I would like to replace my triple play GE VR2 'mono' variable reluctance cartridge with a GE VR22 'stereo' variable reluctance cartridge. I have a Webcor Musicale with an auxilary output and I've purchased an almost identical amp with the same output. Further, I have a Webcor amplified external speaker. The plan is to install the second amp into the Musicale (easier said than done - but not impossible), rewire the tonearm and use the external speaker as the left or right channel. The VR2 mono cartridge measures around 400 ohms while the VR22 stereo was measured at about 1400 ohms per channel. Comments and thoughts welcome. Thanks

The mono GE cartridges were quite good, but their stereo versions were rather poor in my experience. They track very poorly and have high distorion. The only GE Stereo cartridge that was pretty good was the last one they made in the mid 60's, the VR1000.
If you want to convert to stereo, i would recommend you use a modern Pickering NP/AC. The output voltage is nearly the same as the VR2 and has a tracking range of
3 to 7 grams like the VR2 and would work well in your old Webcor arm.

Whatever you do, don't ditch that mono cartridge. Store it or sell it to someone who can use it.
