Reading many posts re this, I've seen none re how to get rid of the resiny-LOOKING black dots that cover the plinth surface--not just of my TT, but many I see in pics here, eprey, CL, etc.

So common a problem; so trivial (it will play just fine w the dots), but I am sure others have discovered the cure for these dots.

Anybody know?

Measles?

Thanks

+1 but not anything over about 220 grit to start with! See where it goes from there. Which AR?

Black dots? I'll have to take a look at mine up close -- but perhaps the dots are actually in the genetics of the species of the wood veneer? If that is the case, then I don't think they can be removed.

The surface of the paint is rough, I thought that was the way they came.

I don't know what its made of but I have seen some really awful looking top surfaces on those tables. I would clean it up really well and shoot it with some quality paint to your liking. Do a nice job and take your time. It will look beautiful. It will not take away from its value or underscore the turntable in any way.

You think that's bad? Pull the grille on a AR 2, 3, 4 (etc.) and take a look at the drivers and baffle boards. :yuck:

One of these days I will get around to it, in the mean time I will play my LP's.

Ah, I understand now -- on the AR-XA. I painted mine with some terra-cotta stone type paint. I think it looks fairly hip.

By the way, I am installing a silver Grace 707 tone-arm on mine.

That flock material on the XA is vile stuff. I attacked mine with steel wool (progressively working up to OOOO)....and painted with Rustoleum copper hammertone paint. Not hard....just time consuming....but worth the effort.

The Copper Hammertone is an excellent choice as well - and looks great.

The deck plate on mine was originally sort of a dingy earth-tone, but was completely smooth; So I was spared the tedium of the steel wool. I just received the Grace tone-arm yesterday, so I need a drill press!

I laughed out loud. That really works, in terms of the color palette described by the wood, base and painted decktop. Like a painting of a turntable. Someone should publish a coffee table book on aesthetically enhanced ARs for decks like this.

Maxseven, do you have any links to info on the ar in your footer. Threads on mods etc?
I've always fancied an ar and yours looks wonderful. I'm a modder at heart also :-)

Thanks for all the complements, and on a side note -- no intention of hijacking this thread!

Rob -- the site is soundofthewood.com for the modifications I installed. There is another site as well at vinylnirvana.com.
