I have one. I think it is a sweet sounding receiver with a lot of guts. If I found another at a decent price I would buy it without blinking an eye.

The Sansui Eight is a really nice receiver. It has a lot of great features like stepped attenuators for the tone controls and separate tuning caps for AM and FM bands. It's built like a tank. All the fasteners are machine thread, no tapping screws. Best of all, it sounds great. You should be able to find a nice one for under $100.

This has got to be among the nicest in the Sansui line. Build quality is amazing. Performance is just like the build.

Pete, the Eight you restored for my friend is superb. We did a side by side with one of my unrestored units and the difference was unbelievable. Yours is sharper, clearer, and darker at the same time.

Keep an eye on the button labels. They are notorious for falling off.

Sam, I frequently use that comparison to support the argument for a complete re-cap. It sure made a believer out of me. Your unrestored Eight worked well and sounded great. It was completely acceptable by itself. But when compared side by side to one with new caps, it clearly showed that replacing the caps extended the dynamic range. What struck me was how much fuller and more detailed each note sounded. A clear difference.

I have an Eight, hooked up and running. It has plenty of power, built well, looks great, and sounds as good as my 9090.
I am not the most critical listener at this site so it is far from an expert opinion.
One thing that made a difference to me, was finding a compatible speaker. It seemed to like ones that were not too bright, to have the warm smooth sound my "old fart" ears like.
